I'm somewhat conflicted about whether it was a smart move or not on WBR's part to offer a free download with In Your Dreams pre-order on Jan.13th. Almost 4 weeks before the single was official available for purchase online. For instance 99.9% of those that pre-ordered to get the song were going to buy the album anyway. And having the song now precludes the majority of those who pre-ordered to not purchase the single, where otherwise they would have, racking up probably upwards of a thousand downloads on release day and generating the excitement now when it's needed.

The YouTube leak has almost 42K hits as of today, which is not exactly a viral sensation after nearly 4 weeks. I hope Stevie puts out a wildly fantastic video in a couple of weeks that stirs the pot much more. Overall realistically I don't expect this song to be a "hit", I just want it to get a moderate amount of attention. I would have liked to see the YouTube leak generate over 100-200K views by now, that would have been promising. So unless Stevie & Warners have a better and more catchy single up their sleeve closer to the release date, I think IYD will be ballpark selling @ 10-25K copies in it's 1st week. Unfortunately that is Stevies & the record industry's new reality(unless your the latest & hottest thang.)
I think she'll far exceed that number opening week.

A couple of weeks ago the number 1 album in the U.S only sold about 50,000. That's horrible. When Stevie hit #5 in 2001 she sold over 100,000. She will sell more than 25k. She has 3 months left and she's coming off a tour and don't disount the two videos she has coming out. However, I'm sure that is going to take a long time for this album to go gold in the U.S., if it does go gold. The state of the music industry is just too bad.

Just imagine hypothetically... if it wasn't for the Ledge or any other fan sites, would you have known that a new single even exists? Perhaps you may have heard some rumblings from Dave Stewart's Twitter, which is hardly what I consider "mainstream media." Surely you will have found out about the Rod-Stevie tour, but from the Ellen appearance, you wouldn't have found out about a new single, let alone a new album. For the more ardent music fan, the mentions of Stevie's new album and single in the newest Rolling Stone may be the first time anyone has heard anything about it. And a handful of AAA stations seem to be playing "Secret Love." But for the 99% of the world that doesn't read RS or listen to AAA radio or read the Ledge, the new Stevie single/album is still completely off the radar. Those 42K hits on YouTube are repeat listenings from mostly hardcore fans.

I think the Stevie promotional engine is already stuck in first gear and is quickly losing ground. She seriously needed to get her name out there starting last year. She should have started appearing on other people's albums, appear at awards shows, appear at fashion shows, and gotten her name dropped in the mainstream media; Liz Rosenberg has been worthless. Unless she is going on an all-out promotional blitzkrieg in the two weeks following the tour, I just don't know how she's going to manage to raise her own visibility to any significant degree before the album drops.

Actually it was more like 40K. The spread among the Top 10 was only 32K - 40K. I think it goes without saying that Stevie will debut at No. 1 if this trend continues. You simply cannot discount the fact that she performed for hundreds of thousands of American fans during the last FM tour, and even if just 10% of them buy the new album during the first week of release, she's already on top. It will be a bit of a hollow/tainted victory given the low sales numbers, but a number one album is a number one album- a feat that FM has not achieved in almost 30 years.

She'll probably show up at the grammys. The fashion show thing is a no, so is the appearing on other people's albums.

They are not in first gear at all. Dave is not even done with his movies. I'm sure some surprises are in store. She will probably be on talk show circuit. Hopefully a talk show will embrace her, just like Rosie o'Donnel did. Lucinda Williams first single dropped today on itunes. It's due in March. Kinda strange she is just coming out with it now and Stevie's album is album is two months later.

Nicks Fix has a note about the single on iTunes up. Downloaded it!

Just have to add how much I love the "I am not asking salvation from you" part. Even though I had Secret Love since January 13, I'm still excited!!!

Well, she needs to show up for the Grammys, the Oscars, the AMAs, the Golden Globes, etc. And she needs to be at NY Fashion Week and be photographed sitting in the front row. She needs to start Tweeting her little beak off and get on Facebook. She needs to totally revamp her website and fight for the stevienicks.com web domain. Her image needs a drastic update.

All this stuff with Dave is fine and dandy, but he is a bit of a mad dreamer; he has lots of brilliant ideas, but nothing truly successful has come of them. Perhaps it's because he's spread too thin to really see things all the way through?

I don't buy albums because I see someone at the oscars or fashion shows. Stevie is not a media whore like Madonna or Cher. Thank god. Give people more credit than that. Madonna and Cher only sell albums because they pay for the best writers and producers. And they are NOT rock stars.

And Stevie needs a mad dreamer and a doer. Please don't ditch Dave. If this album is a success, it will be do to him. I have a sneaky suspician that this album is good, too.

I still can't figure out if her Facebook page is official or not? I know, I know... even if it is somehow connected to Stevie, mama would not be the one doing the arduous sporadic task of sending out a smattering of current relevant information regarding Stevie's new release - but probably a WBR lackey. But nonetheless today the profile picture was updated to Stevie's single "mirror" picture along with a post to "Download Stevie’s new single "Secret Love" available on iTunes now! Look for her new album In Your Dreams available 5/3" along with a link to the Warners website http://wbr.fm/gZP231!

I've also noticed since her appearance on Ellen the number of people that have "liked" Stevie in their profile has steadily gone from 125K to 138,103 as of today. I suspect it is not remotely official, 1st tip off being that they have her music genre listed as indie/rock. But still, right in front of their eyes they have the opportunity to market more aggressively & directly to 138,103 and counting fans! They can post teasers and juicy tidbits like GaGa has been doing about her new release - as well as post her new video and lots of other exciting goodies.

Hey, I'm ignorant about sound technology and all that. But I have heard people go on about bit rate and how important it is to have higher bit rates on downloads.

Well, the iTunes "Secret Love" is 256 kbps, but the free DL from WB is 320 kbps. They sound identical to me, but I was wondering if it makes any difference to anyone.

Oops! Have I killed some potential downloads now?????

There was also a Tweet today too, just saying the single was on iTunes. But it was a Tweet, and it was from the real account that WB seem to be running.

But someone should deffo be making contact with those 138k + Facebookers!

I think the Ellen show sparked interest and then all the press about the joint tour which for the most part everyone that reported on the tour mentioned the new album... I'm sure all those AMEX members received some sort of notification about the tour, which I'm sure mentioned the album... the venue presales, those people that get first crack at tickets, season ticket holders etc. that literature likely mentioned the new album... The promoter took out huge full page newspaper ads in pretty much all the markets they are hitting announcing the tour. If those ads didn't mention the album coming out hopefully it made the curious dig a little deeper to find that info out.

That's why partly I believe she's doing this joint tour with another big act...
1. to get the word out.
2. to make some cash to fund the album and all the costs that go along with .

I think that without this joint tour and all the press that THAT received alone, it may have been much more dismal picture. Plus she's probably much more at ease performing in concert then say appearing at the Grammy's or something like that... I don't know.
