Default Lady From the Mountain

Since it seems that LFTM is not going to be the much-talked about song from the vault on the upcoming album and since it is obviously a big favourite with most people here, I suggest to start a tribute thread to this little gem of a song. What exactly do we know about the Lady, i.e. when was it written, for which albums was it considered (BD and RAL, if I'm right) and how many versions are there?

I have 7 separate versions from 1980-1981, plus a piano version as well. I only have one from Rock A Little.

I absolutely love the real piano version, the oldest version I think. But I don't like the RAL version at all. The song lost all of its power.

I know we've seen this before but I think this is one of the best Stevie covers that's ever been done. I almost like it better than the demo and that NEVER happens.

Is that the version which clocks in at 6:32 and includes several Stevies singing in harmony?

Where the hell did this come? I love it. I had no idea this song has been recorded professionally by someone else.

Woahwoahwoah. I've never heard one that sounds like THAT before. It sounds like it'll be brilliant. Could anyone post it?

Also, what proof, if any, do we have that Lady From The Mountain might not be on the album? Last I heard, I thought it was one of the the most rumoured ones

Isn't it fabulous? I dl'd it from iTunes and listen to it frequently. I think it was released about a year ago and I was really taken aback by the way in which they captured her essence and the dark mood of the song. I especially love when she wails, "is she real is she real is she real, lady from the mountaiiiiiiiiiiiin"

I actually emailed this group through their personal website when it came out to commend them on their work from a true Stevie fan and harsh critic.

I agree, I can't believe she let them record it, it's great.

The RAL version of LFTM is my favorite Stevie song, ever. So I'm really afraid of her releasing it, because I don't think I'd be able to love anything as much as the RAL era demo. It's so powerful, so awesome, so much emotion.

I have one marked as "RAL Demo" from RAL Demos & Outtakes (Disc 2). I don't know where in the spectrum this fits but it's my favorite one. Sadly, the sound is muffled like it's from a cassette that's fallen in water. And she starts out really soft with tons of vibrato. But when she gets to the part about "Did she call out, did she say to you please save me" she rises to this fevered pitch as if she herself is begging to be saved and it's just so passionate. I love it.

Yup, definitely the same one. It's so awesome! I love that part you referenced in the song, too.

I think that's the one I have on my iTunes, but the sound quality doesn't sound like what you described, it's pretty good, I think. Here's my version:

Is this where she talks at the beginning and says "Lady from the Mountains take .."?
