No, you aren't missing anything. I think we were all just jumping the gun speculating that they might be testing the waters for future work together.

As for your BN theory, we fans would eat it up.

I'd love to taunt Lindsey and tell him he probably didn't have it in him to do the Frozen Love solo anymore. I can just imagine the facial expression that might get from him.

Well this now means that Dave has worked with Stevie, Mick, and Lindsey... And since Stevie has the cards in her hand on the next Mac album... It just suggests that Dave might be involved but his BN clue has its own suggestiveness

I was looking for the interview where Stewart was mentioned as an FM producer and it was from that same one where Stevie said if one of them dies the other will be sitting on the bed alone.

Here's the Stewart part excerptec:

How far along are you in planning a new Fleetwood Mac album?

We aren't far along in any specific sense. My mantra is to work on my dynamic with Stevie. She was a little uncomfortable when we got on the road last time, for whatever reason. Part of it was that she missed Christine, part of it was that I was getting 50 percent of the face time onstage and she wasn't used to having a guy get all that space. I think it threw her context out a little. So this time around I am very much wanting to make everyone as comfortable as possible and have that be the most important thing. But we have discussed, when this tour is done, going into the studio. The only specific we know is that we are leaning toward finding an outside producer. I think it would help to have an overviewer. It was pretty hard taking the reins last time. Not so much with the music but with the band politics.

Have any producers in mind?

We had a short a list, but I have no idea. We've talked about everyone from Daniel Lanois to Dave Stewart to Rick Rubin. That pretty much runs the gamut of approaches. We have to meet with a few people and see how it feels.

Actually, Stevie was really disappointed that When I See You Again did not get enough recognition on Tango, so she talked Lindsey into coming to the studio with her and Dave and doing a new version of it with more whasamattababy's in it!

totally agreed with above post. Except that imo the outcome will be musically unattractive. Dave slicks. Those samples from his solo-album are totally aweful. And slickness usually makes forgettable music.

Fleetwood Mac needs a producer that sets things sharp. Like Rick Rubin. Or Jack White, or Mitchell Froom maybe.

He will compromise... but only after he has done so in a way that furthers his own personal agendae while bruising everyone who stood in his way.

At the end of the day, Dave's greatest asset is his versatility and his ability to make the impossible possible, e.g., this latest Buckingham Nicks reunion. He has the gift of gab. He is not exactly a looker, but he could probably charm the pants off of every straight woman in a ten-meter radius. Dave is The Man. This is exactly what FM needs- someone who can smooth the bumps and schmooze everyone into thinking that things are going their way even when they are not. Ultimately Lindsey will be Lindsey and Stevie will be Stevie. But I think Dave has the social and musical skills and the work ethic to make it work. He is a fan. He is a peer too. I don't think he would let us down.

I just love everything you articulated here! (especially your use of the word "extrapolate.") Just saying... You rock!

The fact that Fleetwood Mac & its members seem to be as influenced as they are by the likes of Dave F'ing Stewart is just too disgusting for me to even digest. To say that I'm horrified would be an understatement.

I'm keeping my distance. Hope everyone's having a nice holiday season, etc, but, damn.

Well he did great working with Bryan Ferry on SONGWRITING, then Bryan wisely moved that material on to different producer(s).

As for producer... Dave Stewart is no more horrifying to me than Jack White.
