i've been listening to the 1983 concert mp3's being posted at cuckinhamnicks.net. i have to say, the 15 or so songs i've downloaded so far have been pretty hit or miss. for instance, i'm not that impressed with 'hold me' or 'dreams'. but other bootlegs of the mirage tour rock! so, before we all start slinging about wild accusations that they've lost it for good, i think we should wait and see how the actual tour goes.

also, i think the fairly uninspired performances on the today & tonight shows may relate to the audiences. i would guess a performer gets much more 'into it' when singing at big packed (i hope) stadiums than being either out in the freezing cold or in a tv studio with poor acoustics and an audience bored to death by an army cook or the world's least amusing comedian.

about those pour acoustics, somebody posted in another thread that the sound guy was screwing around and making things sound bad. when stevie & lindsey harmonized a cappella at the end of SYW, i was quite impressed, i thought it sounded really great (maybe all the other musicians had confused the sound guy).

EXACTLY!! We've ALL heard many lackluster live performances floating out there in cyberland....so...

Actually, I was gonna post about the audiences today. Thanks for bringing it up! I agree that it's the AUDIENCE that makes a HUGE difference in a band's performance!! If you are looking out at a sea of faces that look like this

then yeah, you are NOT going to be into your performance. If all the peeps look like this

then, they are gonna ROCK OUT!!!! ENERGY is what it's all about...we feed it to THEM and then they take it and transfer it back into ENERGY for us!!

nancy, thanks for posting the concert! i have enjoyed it, despite a few lackluster moments. kudos for a great site.

Why use the audience excuse? They are professionals and know what is at stake when they go on a show like Today or the Tonight Show. It is all about PROMOTION (PR). If I were their record label, I would be shaking my head and wondering how many sales they lost. They were pretty bad and probably didn't make many marginal fans run to the store to pick up their latest CD. And yes, they are beginning to look like maybe they should hang it up.

I didn't mean for the audience to be an excuse for a lackluster performance, I'm just saying that the audience FEEDS energy and helps with kickin' it into high gear.

Why should they hang it up? If the ugly-a$$ Rolling Stones can do an album and tour, Fleetwood Mac, who look AWESOME and sound AWESOME can do it!!

Unfortunately I've always found FM/Stevie solo live performances to always be fairly inconsistent or unpredictable. I've generally seen at least two performances of every tour going many years back and noticed sometimes from night to night what a difference there can be. And why would a half (if even that) filled ampitheatre for a Street Angel show get a smoking performance while a sold out show on the TISL tour (before bronchitis and 9/11) get the most lackluster performance I've seen.
I've experienced the same at Mac shows. And now without Chris (probably the most grounded) we have Lindsey and Stevie (exccentric, artistic, moody, dramatic, all qualities we love but that don't always equal up to professional).
I still have hope for the tour-I've been let down and also happily surprised by this band, most times when either one happens when I least expect it.
As long as Stevie will still get up and shake her...a) tambourine b)ass c) either/or d) hopefully both! we are in for at least a few great shows!

Shake the tambourine and we'll get a completely different Fleetwood Mac from the one we've been getting through television these days... It's incredible how that little thing can cause such a big change.

I know I know-WHERE IS THE TAMBOURINE? And did you read in the new People mag. where she says she wasn't gonna wear the boots this tour but got too much resistance? What's next, she's gonna put her hair in a banana clip and wear sweats on stage? Sheesh, how much can we take?
And why can't she bust a move onstage anymore? I don't care how hard she says being a rock star is-when your on stage for two hours every few nights for a few months of a tour every couple years...that is when you are at your job. That is when you give it your all. Don't tell me that job is harder than the 50+ hours i put in a week-and I still dress up and go out and bust a move now and then!
(I'm not really a Stevie basher-I'll pay any price to see them roll out onstage in wheelchairs but c'mon!!)
