Default Out of the Cradle or Gift of Screws

I've never listened to any of Lindsey's solo albums. I am looking to buy my first. I have read some great reviews of OOTC and GOS. What album do you guys recommend? Are there any others worth checking out first?

I would, without a shadow of a doubt, go for Out of The Cradle as my first purchase. Despite my love of Gift Of Screws, I feel that OotC represents him more as an artist. It's a clear demonstration of his talent at what he does.

In order of preference

Go Insane
Out Of The Cradle
Under The Skin
Law And Order
Gift Of Screws

My favorite is Law & Order. It takes me back to a pre-rock era where I can be an old fart & watch Lawrence Welk on TV.

Start from the beginning: Law & Order

You can't go wrong with either OOTC or GOS. I love them both I don't like L&O ( can't even stand the cover ). Other than Trouble and Bwana, it's just not my thing, and I wouldn't play it for a new listener. My third choice would be GI, which, though more dated, I absolutely adore, and I would go nuts if he did anything at all from GI ( besides the title track, of course ) on his next tour ( )!!

I can't stand Law and order or GI. Although when i first heard Bwana I chocked on my own spit. I Have NEVER laughed so hard at a song. Would start with Out of the Cradle. Perfect album. Thin Gift of Screws, then Under the skin. UTS is a grower. It's great though,

Mick

Out of the Cradle, definitely.

But all of Lindsey's solo albums are rewarding in some way.

Law and Order is my second favorite.

Then Gift of Screws, then Under the Skin, then Go Insane.

But, as I said, I love them all. The only member of the Rumours-era lineup whose solo albums are routinely rewarding. I love all of Chris's ITM, but the 1984 solo album is pretty bland, imo. All of Stevie's albums, while often impressive, are difficult for me to digest in one sitting beyond three or four songs at a time.

Under the Skin
Gift of Screws
Law & Order & Go Insane (tie)

I think Out Of The Cradle is the best stepping off point. It's the most approachable, and prettiest to listen to. The others try to challenge the listener in varying degrees. Some of it makes for edgy, even fun music. Some of it's pretty far out in left field, especially for the typical Mac fan. You'll come to love it all in time!

I agree with all aleuzzi said. Stevie does have great solo work, Wild Heart being my favorite, but I can only take it in doses. Now i really gotta listen to In the Meantime.

As for Bucky's solo work, I suggest starting with, like everyone else said, Out of the Cradle. It's an all-around fantastic album, and it really shows off his talents as a singer-songwriter-guitarist. Then go to Gift of Screws and take it from there.

Law and Order, Go Insane, Out Of The Cradle, Under The Skin, Gift Of screws and then the new one, Given Thing.

Just walk the development the artist made. Then you'll be able to get grip of the evolution of Lindsey's work itself, and the understanding of his art. Ofcourse it can be understood in a million ways, but there's a very cool progression in sound-and songsculpture in his work, best followable in the natural order, imho.

Is this wishful thinking on your part or do you know something I don't? Be great if it was!
