Lindsey vs. Stevie 2011 Grudge Match!

As much as I love Buckingham, I'm more excited to hear Stevie's new one. It's been 10 years.

Lindsey for me. I still haven't got round to listening any of Stevie's solo stuff except for Eo17. I'll have to get round to listening to her first solo album because from the sounds of it it's pretty good.

Let's see...

With Lindsey, what do we have to look forward to? More singing through a squawk box? More singing through echo chambers? More singing through vari-speed oscillators? I think it's one thing if he just made straightforward rock records. But the more he tries to pull out his bag of tricks, the more his limitations as a producer begin to show. He is very insular and is loathe to collaborate with others. So why should we believe that over the past two years he has suddenly found new inspiration and ideas? Another album full of whispery caterwauling like "Shut Us Down" seems to be most likely.

With Stevie we have the great unknown as well as the first new Stevie songs in 8 years. Stevie has never worked with Dave Stewart nor has she ever collaborated so closely with another songwriter. The hype machine has been running since the summer- with Stevie herself proclaiming this to be one of the best things she has ever done. And that's saying a lot! She has teased us with intriguing song titles like "Italian Summer." She promises more than the "four chords" that she knows how to play on the piano. She sounded terrific on her summer tour dates. She is either flirting with disaster or she may have just made an album for the ages. Anyone with even a remote interest in Stevie has got to be eager to see this album drop.

My biggest problem WITH Stevie, has always been her fans. Because they think her sh*t smells like roses. OSOTM, is a piece of trash, IMO(and many other ppl's, too), but her fans(many of them, anyway) just can't admit, that she's put out more than a few lame albums.

On your second point, we agree completely. God, Chris blows them away, now. Her voice just keeps getting better and better, and the other two, going the OBVIOUSLY opposite direction.

I actually don't mind it either. Probably because it's inspired by Tom Petty, who is flawless in my book. I can tolerate this song, and even that duet with the Dixie Chicks. I freakin' love that Dixie Chick singer's voice.

I totally see your point! But I guess it's all in taste, because I don't think any of them are trash as a whole. Sure there are songs on each of her albums that aren't as good, and quite frankly suck, but I still enjoy the albums in their entirety. As for OSOTM, it is adult contemporary filler crap, but I love it to death. I'm glad we can all agree that Chris kicks their asses these days

I'm glad I am not the only one who likes That Made Me Stronger!

Also, Stevie's by far. Lindsey's solo work has never done anything for me. Nor has a lot of his work with Fleetwood Mac. His stuff just seems hit or miss for me whereas Stevie has songs I don't love, but nothing I can't stand. Plus, I've heard enough of Lindsey in the past ten years!

TISL is the only Stevie album I didn't listen to a million times. If I do listen I'll play the title track, I Miss You and Planets of the Univ. Occasionally Bombay Sapphires. I don't like the song Love Is but I did enjoy hearing her sing it live because it was a song of hers she had never sung in concert before.

All I know is, in about 5 years, I went from being her biggest fan, to "WTF is this sh*t she's putting out?" I gave OSOTM about 20 listens, and decided that she'd completely lost her gift(whatever that was). RAL wasn't much better, and I signed off.....

Chris is simply amazing. It must be a "god given thing"(although I'm an atheist)......HOW can LB and SN lose MOST of their vocal prowess, yet Chris(what, 4 years older?), just gets sweeter and sweeter? It's odd how time takes it's toll on most, yet a select few, remain unscathed. She's the exception to the rule.

Listen to Calumny, or Northern Star! Her range, in both upper and lower registers, is just jaw dropping! She's 10 times better, than in 1970. Quite the anomaly, she is...

Although I voted for Lindsey (and stick to that vote), you put this very well. (But with Dave Stewart as the producer... I'm still scared). But I wanted to piggyback off of you to pose this to the group: WHY does lindsey do that vocal-whisper thing on every song???!!! I dun git it. It's what kept Gift of Screws from being a MASTERPIECE instead of just great.
