I seem to be the only person who prefers Mirage to Tango.
I don't like Red Rover. When I See You Again grew on me. I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production. Fall from Grace is one of my least favorites on TISL, but I like TFFT. I don't mind the dancers in the Stand Back video. Sign of the times, & they're no on too too much. With some exceptions, I prefer Chris's earlier work to her later work. Worse, I think she did some great songs post-Lindsey. I find a couple of Lindsey's songs monotonous on Tusk. I think Stevie looked better in the Seven Wonders video than in any other. Empire State doesn't bother me. Family Man does. Just my (unpopular) opinions. (Flame away. )What's your most unpopular FM opinion? - Jake

P.S. I don't think your opinion about "Mirage" was all that unpopular; I prefer that wonderful album, too. P.P.S. I know that, here on the Ledge, we can all feel safe in talking about our unpopular FM opinions without being flamed or put down. |

I seem to be the only person who prefers Mirage to Tango.
I like them both equally I don't like Red Rover. I love Red Rover and think it's probably Lindsey's best on SYW. When I See You Again grew on me. ME TOO! I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production. Sorry I disagree. I'm still not in love with RTTG but I think on EFO, although it may border on something Madonna or Cher would do, she makes the song her own! Fall from Grace is one of my least favorites on TISL, but I like TFFT. Man, our opinions are getting more disagreeing...totally on that point! I don't mind the dancers in the Stand Back video. Sign of the times, & they're no on too too much. I didn't like the video period. Most of Stevie's videos are cheesy and this one's no exception. Hell, most videos done in the 80s were pretty lame. With some exceptions, I prefer Chris's earlier work to her later work. Worse, I think she did some great songs post-Lindsey. I think Chris has written exceptional songs during her entire tenure in the Mac...she's a constant if there ever was one. I find a couple of Lindsey's songs monotonous on Tusk. Uh Huh! I think Stevie looked better in the Seven Wonders video than in any other. She looked great in Seven Wonders but better in Hold Me and Gypsy!! ![]() Empire State doesn't bother me. Family Man does. They both bother me, but Empire State bothers me more. Ok here's a few of my unpopular opinions: I want Stevie doing "Rhiannon" on stage with FM or solo any way she wants to do it ...slow or fast...it'll always be one of my favorites...beautiful song. And her signature song imo. I like "Silver Girl" quite a bit. I've got a few others but I won't open that can of worms, at least not in the Rumours forum. ![]() Joe Last edited by jwd; 04-28-2003 at 06:58 PM.. |

Ok, I'll have a go...(putting on the HazMat gear), and away we go...
I think: Rumours being such a big blockbuster album (saleswise) is the worst thing to ever happen to Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey & Stevie both should've just quit Fleetwood Mac outright immediately after the Tusk tour. Let the band carry on with other members...THEN when the dust had settled between them, no matter HOW long it took, if it felt right, then just make it a Buckingham Nicks reunion. Say You Will's sequencing sucks to the point it is unlistenable without reprogramming the running order. (individually, the songs are some of the best they've done, but trying to listen to them in that order is PAINFUL) Mirage, as an album, seems to sound worse (as in, "boring") upon each successive listen, no matter HOW much I like the individual songs themselves. Too bad we can't go back in time and put the SYW versions of "Everybody Finds Out" & "Smile At You" on Tango in place of "Welcome To The Room...Sara" & "When I See You Again". |

Well, I have to agree with you on some of these. I really don't care for Tango that much. Mirage I kind of found a new appreciation for a few years back. I found out that Princess Diana was in that car accident just as "Oh Diane" was playing. I always found that very strange. I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production. Well, I have to say that I am not in love with either one of these songs. I think Stevie looked better in the Seven Wonders video than in any other. Well, I think that Stevie looked the best in the Mirage 1982 era. Except for her hair. Empire State doesn't bother me. Family Man does. I have to agree with that one. |

I am NOT a Stevie/Lindsey romantic and I hope they NEVER have an affair, do the deed or get back together in any way, shape or form. I want Lindsey to stay married to the LOVE OF HIS LIFE, Kristen until death do them part!
I LIKE Lindsey's androgynous look ala Tusk. Sue me. ![]() I wrote another one, but the server went down and I lost my post. Oh well....

Here is my take. I grew up with this music as I was born in Nov. 1966. Consequently, although I had these records when they originally were released, I did not truly get the adult orientation of the songs until Mirage and then only after a good heart trampling by the most popular and beautiful girl school and our five minute conversation when she asked for help with math and I fell head over heels (OH YOUTH!!!). So, although I like all of the FM records except Time, all of the songs on Mirage will always have more meaning. Similar things happened from then until now. But, all of the songs on Mirage will always be "it" for me in the long run. Also, I still wax romantic everytime Stevie has a hippie ritual onstage (sadly not with Sara anymoe) or rocks the house with a dance song - which is why se better do that with RTTG!!!!! I must say, that although she looked great for TITN, for me she was her best for Tusk and, esp. Mirage (that hair with that white outfit!!!!).
Other details - yes, LB can get on my nerves, esp. his voic (no slams - I love him to death but sometimes not so much). Red Rover would be a good example of this clearly brilliant, but sometimes aggravating nature of LB and I like the song! Christine was just about perfection in just about all ways. May she live comfortably knowing that once I discovered the song "Why" is best experienced alone and with a large cocktail, my life is much improved!!! But, hey - to each their own. |

Hmmm...
Silver Girl is definitely growing on me BIG TIME (shut your traps and listen to it - and it will on YOU, too!) ... I like Sheryl Crow, her music... and think that she has been a good influence on Stevie ... I like the Dixie Chicks, their music... and think that the Landslide video was a nice homage to Stevie (and that their "influence" on Stevie has fit very nicely, in her bank account) ... I LOVE Stevie's Tango songs - and think that 'The Second Time' on BTM is lovely ... I've never heard any of Lindsey's solo albums --(flinch!)-- besides the GOS tracks, obviously (hence my switcheroo screen name "Riff Shuffler") - I love those, *so very much*, and will be purchasing Out of the Cradle very shortly (yay!) ... I adore My Little Demon and Sweet Girl from The Dance as much as the classics on that album ... I enjoy Mick(!) - it's hard to hold anything against him, when I see him making those insane faces and enjoying himself the way he does on stage. I'm sorry for that one guys, but it's true ... I'll add more as I think of them! - Josh ![]() |

Here goes:
I HATE Red Rover with a passion. Everything about that song drives me insane. After the first few seconds, I'm ready to pull out my hair. OSOTM is my fave Stevie album. I know, most people hate it, but I adore it! Mick isn't as good a drummer as he's cracked up to be. Anyone ever heard of Clem Burke? A god among drummers. Stevie should not have had anything to do with TITN; she dragged it down incredibly. Like Chili said, Say You Will's sequencing blows. Peacekeeper, then...Come?!?! Ick. Besides for a few songs, I despise Mirage. It's FM at their worst (BN line-up). I hate the way that Stevie cuts demos then uses them twenty years later. I'd prefer new songs that reflect her current state of mind. But I do LOVE the final products! Stevie looked the best she ever looked in the video for Gypsy. Absolutely stunning!! I can barely recognize LB in the video for Hold Me. He looks like...someone else. Christine had some horrid fashion sense back in the day. |

I don't care if they ever play Sara live again.
It's an okay song, but it doesn't light my fire at all. I think because it hasn't been played in so long that it has become this mythic creature that everyone is clamoring to see on the stage. Oh, and - I do want them to keep playing Dreams forever. I know it is tired and it isn't great live. But to me, that song defines the band and represents everything that I love about their music. (Fortunately, it looks like I never have to worry about this one getting dropped.) ![]()

I like "Only over you" and "Mystified"
"That's Alright" is THE WORST Stevie song i've heard The second half of SYW is really...really boring. I really hate that single version of "Over My Head" "My Little Demon" sucks. I hate the way Lindsey sings the first "to", in "what's the world coming to" |

I most DEFINITELY prefer Mirage; it's probably my favorite Mac album (one of them, at least.)
I don't care for Tango much at all, probably because it contains two of the most dreadful Stevie songs in existence. And my confession (see if you can top this!): I can't stand HAEWAFY. It's okay live, but I pretty much HATE the album version. |
