To try and get some real confirmation I sent an email to Hope Estate, they probably won't tell me anything but it's worth a try.

BTW, that songkick website should be sued for causing angina unnecessarily. They have a couple of "Fleetwood Mac" concerts upcoming in Portugal in November. Turns out it's actually "Rumours of Fleetwood Mac." I have always wanted to (pack a crate of vegan meals and) visit Portugal!
Perhaps, but I did see that same info posted on the Hope Estates facebook page that same day. It later disappeared, as I recall...

It's only a private party in California. Just a quick gig, there and back again.
Jana had mentioned that in an earlier post.

Could they possibly be filming a DVD? She did say they were walking into the "soundstage".

They rehearse on soundstages before they tour/do one off shows. Just watch the Destiny Rules documentary... they spend several days or more rehearsing on soundstages before they started the Say You Will tour. They have such a huge entourage of backing musicians and singers, they have to get everybody all tightened up to perform once they've been apart for a while.

I dont quite see why they would be doing this? They dont need the money and it's not for the "art". I dont remember them ever doing something like this before.

I've seen some of these corporate event performances and 75% of the audience dont care who is on stage. The atmosphere is not driven by the music... it's usually by wine!

Could this performance be for a friend?

Stevie has done countless corporate/private events like this. So it seems like a natural progression for Fleetwood Mac to do such a thing.

Regarding them "not needing the money"... I wouldn't be so sure. Remember artists get paid a very, very tiny portion of their album sales (we're talking just pennies per each album sold). I'd have to imagine for someone like John McVie, his portion of that is almost negligible since he's neither a singer, songwriter, nor a manager. Most bands make true money in touring. But knowing the breakdown of the band's salaries, John and Mick reportedly get 15% each of the profits, while Lindsey gets 30% and Stevie gets a staggaring 40%. Keep in mind, all of this is AFTER the promoters, lawyers, venues, managers, et al have been paid. Let's also keep in mind all the band members live in extremely expensive areas (LA and Hawaii), and half of the band have very young children to tend. Since Stevie has no children and has a profitable solo career, she likely is good to go financially... but what about Mick and John? Mick has battled money problems all his life. He was dealing with bankruptcy as late as the '90s... I'd highly doubt he's got a huge nest egg these days. I'd suspect the only reason the band toured last year was to supplement incomes since the world is in recession, and I'm betting the band's stock & 401k portfolios were taking some serious hits.

I highly doubt Mick and John are exactly bumming for extra change on Sunset. They each made at least $5 million on tour last year. And even though their share of album royalties is not as high as Stevie/Lindsey/Chris, they still get a little something- probably enough to make ends meet every month. After all, "Fleetwood Mac" is credited as the producer for the hit albums that matter, so Mick and John certainly participate in those royalties. And it's conceivable that John has been a very modest mouse and has been prudent about saving and investing. I think they are doing this gig (wherever it may be held) simply because the money was too good to pass up. I wouldn't be surprised if they are pulling in as much money for this one show as they would pull in for a string of tour dates.

I'm not saying I think they're broke, I just know with Mick and Lindsey having young children, and John having one in college that they need to be fiscally responsible and not turn down easy money. I think the band also realizes the clock is ticking on how many years left of performing they have, too... and they know they need to rake in the dough while they have the chance. I have a feeling all of the wives of the Men Of Mac keep their husbands keenly aware of all of this.

The way John joked on the Say You Will documentary about splitting mixing costs and it being too expensive, I bet you're right that he has lived on the modest side. He's always seemed the most sane and grounded of the entire lot. I still have to wonder about Mick, though. He's notorious for his extravagant spending, and was constantly changing into his custom made shoes and shirts in the Say You Will documentary. I know I keep citing that documentary, but I view it to be a fairly honest barometer on how the band members conduct themselves this day and age.

I suspect that if Mick had his druthers, Fleetwood Mac would tour non-stop forever... just like Bob Dylan. Just for the sake of touring and playing and hanging out with his best mates. Same with John. So I suspect that it didn't take much arm-twisting to get them on board. Sure the money must have helped too, but I just can't imagine Mick saying "no" to anything involving Fleetwood Mac. Hopefully they will get together and rediscover their chemistry. Stevie will then play them some of the rough mixes of her new album and then a bowled-over Mick will take her aside and ask her to offer a few of those songs for the next Fleetwood Mac album. Lindsey will respond by playing some demos he's been working on and... voila... a new Fleetwood Mac album is born. Ha!

BTW, I am sure Mick needs to get everything custom made simply because of his unusual proportions. I do too! I'd love to be able to shop for shirts off the rack, but they look absolutely ridamndiculous on me.
