I'll tell my mother about it. Thank you (:

We have to make an appointment to take him in. My mother wanted to get him cremated so that we could keep him, but keeping his ashes would cost us $180, and we don't have the money to do that.

Sorry to hear about your baby... I know the feeling when the end is close at hand. My cat (who was almost 19!) seemed to know it was time; for a few days he would do nothing but sleep or sit in a corner and stare at the wall- almost as if something was going on there. The only thing I am happy about is that I was there at the vet when his eyes shut for the last time.

In my grief, completely out of my mind, I went ahead and agreed to pay extra for the ashes. Don't do it. It may seem like something you need to have when you're in the moment, but years from now, when you are moving stuff around, you'll ask yourself why you did this. Call me unsentimental, but having his ashes in my closet does not exactly make me feel like I am closer to my departed cat! I wish I could have spent the money more productively, e.g., donated to a no-kill animal shelter.

Try crushed ice...when my Rudy (the Rottweiler) was failing & dehydrating, he wouldn't eat food, but he would crunch on crushed ice & drink liquids. Also, try electrolyte enchanced water. We didn't have it then (2002), but the Vet had us give him Gatorade &/or Pedialyte. Now the "Smart water" is better cuz it's sugar free.

Daisy, my beagle, is getting up in years(she's 13) and needs surgery to remove a growth on her cheek. I'm really apprehensive about her getting through the anesthesia...I've had a bit of a problem with her weight and since she snores like a crosscut saw, I'm worried that she has apnea. I almost didn't make it through a surgical procedure of my own a few years ago because of MY apnea; actually died on the table three times before they brought me back for good. Don't want to go through that with Daisy.

Best of luck with your SAT's!! With all else going on, try to stay focused on the tests!

I disagree. If you revisit the pet thread, my drama was from Feb 2004 Dec 2005. I did have my dog cremated, and I still have a small memorial set up to him, in my living room. A few pictures, with his ashes, and the cards and stuff, that Ledgies sent me. It gives me comfort, having my baby's ashes with me.

Thanks guys. I will take all of your advice into consideration when I talk to my mother (if she even wants to hear about it). I read that the only reason keeping his ashes would cost so much is because we are trying to do it through an emergency clinic.

Anyone have any advice on the SAT and ACT??

Did I miss how much cremation was? My dog had wasted away, down to 20 lbs, from 34, and his cremation was $65.

I just called another hospital in Dumfries. I was told that I would have to pay $180 for the ashes and a hundred-something for the euthanasia depending on Nemo's condition (they've never seen him before so they'd have to examine him). My mother just agreed to pay the 180 at the emergency clinic that we've been going to, and then we will make a shrine. I'll scan the picture that I took of him that I'm planning on framing for him.

Nemo was 17 lbs. before, when he got sick and stopped eating he was 12 lbs., and yesterday at the clinic he weighed 9 lbs. He lost 8 lbs over 6 weeks.

I'm beyond disappointed with my best friend. We've been in Uni for about a week, and she's already decided that she hates the course and wants to drop out if she can't switch to Psychology, as she just "doesn't care"

I mean, fair enough, switching course if you hate the one you're on, but dropping out altogether would just be sad, and a huge waste of her intelligence =/ She just doesn't want to do all the reading we have to do.

This happened to me when I started my University course with my besty. She got it into her head that she'd rather just work at a dead end job at a care home for the immediate payoff. It took me so long to get her to commit to the course, but even now she needs to get her priorities right because her work suffers terribly due to her lazyness/lack of interest. I used to put so much help into helping her, but after two years of it I've kind if given up wasting my energy. Hopefully she'll see the error of her ways before she gets another caution and summer work, because her grade was so poor at the end of the first year that if she didn't do the summer work she wasn't welcome back despite having already paid her second year fee. I hope your friend sees the light and realises how important her education really is, and how much it'll benefit her in the future. It's a shame to waste such a golden opportunity to better yourself when it's all handed to you.

The thing is, my friend has a job at ASDA, where she works Saturday and Sunday and gets £400 a month. Her parents won't make her pay rent or anything, so she's basically gotten used to doing whatever she wants. She's used to the lazy life, and I think she's been scared off by how much work we're meant to do outside of class. I mean, it's not fun spending all weekend making notes on the Dreyfus affair - like I've been doing - but, it's neccessary =/

She's stubborn, once she decides to do something, she's doing it. I'm just hoping she'll be able to transfer to Psychology, otherwise, she'll probably just get more shifts at work and be stuck there forever.

Gah...She sounds like my Cousin, who's been working for a Louse's wage at Bodycare since she left school. Mind you, I have no qualms in saying she's as thick as lumpy Custard so that probably added to her decision. At least your friend is making the effort to at least attempt to find a course that suits her. I hope she gets her place. Nobody wants to work at ASDA forever. Even walking through it for shopping is a trial.
