Yeh, that demo's incredible. We're so lucky to have these sonic artefacts to pore over and keep the obsession going!

'Sara' to win, tho, please.

Uh, that would be me. Therefore subtract one point from all five tracks. Then add one point to Sara and one point to Storms. Now what's the score?

If we adjust the votes, per vivfox, SOTM has 22 votes, Sara & Storms have 21 votes, BC has 19, and Angel has 7 votes...

...or we could just leave the votes as is?

Poll closes tomorrow (Friday) at 8:38 pm (central time).

Perhaps we can get the Ledgies that stick to Stevie's forum to vote?

I like all of those actually. Sara would have to be my album favorite though.

I always wished they had mixed Angel to be more rocky like the way it was being played back in the studio on the Tusk documentary.

Don't get me wrong, I think SOTM is fine and everything, but I can't help but feel that people are sentimental about it only because of the fiery live performance in the Mirage live video. But at the end of the day, the live version and the studio version are virtually two entirely different songs; the studio version comes nowhere close to the live version's intensity and passion. It's not her greatest song musically or lyrically and for me it seems to be nothing more than a really cool way to end Side 2. It would definitely be regarded as one of Stevie's lesser tracks if there wasn't that incendiary live version to think about.

The opposite is true of "Sara," which I don't think really ever translated well to the stage. The live versions have sounded a bit flat and dull, where it becomes painfully obvious that it is basically a repetitive two-chord song. By contrast, the studio version is a miracle of sonic splendor- full of lush, ethereal layers of sound and haunting vocal effects; it is truly a studio masterpiece. So if we were truly evaluating Stevie's Tusk tracks for what they are (and not how they are played live), there is no question that "Sara" should be the hands-down winner in this round.

HejiraNYC, I very much get what your saying. One of the things I try to push with this battle of the songs, is judging the songs as they are presented on the album, the original album release. However, I can imagine it can be hard to separate those passionate, jaw-dropping performances from the possibly more "tame" song recordings.

You & I have diametrically opposed tastes in music, it seems.

I think the live versions of SOTM are WAY over the top (as opposed to the live vs studio "Rhiannon"s) and don't really care for them. I have always thought that the studio version IS the definitive version of the song.
