Default Whole Lotta Crazy

For all Stevie likes to make fun of Bob Dylan (or Bob Seger) for being crazy, she’s not exactly prime material for the cover of Sanity Fair. Of course, we love her anyway, or maybe we love her because of it.

I thought we could discuss moments where we realized there’s a whole lot of crazy contained in that little tiny lady.

One for me was a quote from In Style in 2001 for the Trouble in Shangri-la listening party:

Quote:
Nicks collects Tiffany lamps and has outfitted them all with dimmers as well as a range of colored bulbs, so entire rooms are saturated in rich, romantic hues. "I'll get up in the middle of the night and spend hours walking around the house changing the lighting," she says.
My first reaction was along the lines of "sweet." Then I thought about it and was like, “Wait, what? That’s disturbingly obsessive!”

What are some moments/quotes that have screamed our girl's not playing with a full deck?

That's probably not that bad. I tend to fall on the side of neurotic and obsessive too. Especially when I get up in the wee hours of the night to tidy my wardrobe

I always thought her collecting of dolls was a bit creepy. Almost reminds me of Baby Jane. :s

I think the doll collecting is creepy. Something about their lifeless staring eyes... freaks me out.

I can totally picture her changing all the lights though, I'd do that. It sounds fun >_>

Her mom collects dolls too, though. I guess creepy/crazy runs in the family!

Still, I think spending hours in the middle of the night when you should be sleeping just to roam your house and fiddle with the lights isn't exactly the definition of sane. But who wants to be sane, anyway? Lighting is everything, dammit!

Well...it's not so much the collecting of the dolls, it's the carrying them around with her on every tour she goes on.

Or how about how she supposedly takes all of her stage clothes with her, even the stuff that doesn't fit anymore.

I remember hearing her mention once about how she always need a fireplace going on in her house, and if it's like 90 degrees out, she just turns up the A/C higher. Even her mom said she was wasting tons of energy doing that.

I can see her taking along a few packed wardrobe chests full of stage clothes while on tour but I highly doubt it's everything she owns. In pictures and certain televised interviews you can see her clothes on racks wrapping around entire rooms. And why bother taking so much on tour if she's only gonna wear the same 4 outfits each night? That's whats puzzling.

I'll bet that it is a reaction to her publicly getting zapped by the IRS disallowing her stage clothes deduction (of over $50,000 or so) about 20-25 years ago. If she leaves those items in her home closet, she can't claim them as "stage clothes"...if she hauls 'em around the world in her wardrobe cases, she probably can claim them as a tax deduction.

I still doubt she hauls around everything she owns. I would think her little stint with the IRS was enough that she just goes ahead and pays now without much fuss because we haven't heard of any troubles since. And if I remember correctly in the early 90's I think it was almost 300,000 she was trying to write off.

Oh, my dolls are all over the place. My china cabinet has dolls on the glass display in the top and dvds in the cupboards below. Meanwhile, the china is packed away in a box somewhere. Dolls on the mantle, on the nightstands, in the closet and four "reborn" baby dolls in my bedroom, so lifelike that when the exterminator saw them he was scared that he'd exposed infants to toxic chemicals.

So, in summary, I find nothing creepy about collecting dolls. No, sir. I don't carry mine around though.

Yeah, I remember Cory talking about Stevie having her clothes with her on tour. Clothes she wore back in the seventies and she was telling people to try them on.

The dolls aren't crazy? How 'bout that time she locked herself in her room for days with hundreds of her dolls and wouldn't talk to anyone?

Sounds crazy enough to me.

Another incident that instantly pops into my mind is the crazy Street Angel Hair. She didn't use a krimping or curling iron to attain all the volume, either... she spent hours every single night braiding it. And the end product of all that unnecessary labor is still rather questionable...

It's funny that the dolls have been mentioned so much because it was a doll that really made me question her sanity...even though it was only for a brief second. I saw this documentary once about this lady who makes these dolls that look and feel like real babies...I mean, scary real...for the purpose of people to treat them like real babies. A lot of her business comes from women and couples who can't have children or people who have lost them. We're talking naming them, setting up a nursery, driving them around in a carseat, being totally emotionally attached...the whole baby deal. Anyway, I saw a pic of Stevie carrying a baby through an airport once and immediately I thought "oh christ...wtf is she doing taking that baby on an airplane??" Now, I don't believe for a second that Stevie actually takes those dolls anywhere near that seriously but for that one brief, initial moment I couldn't help but be worried about her state of mind.
