Apologies in advance if this thread isn't suited for the Rumours forum but better suited for the pre-Rumours forum. I listened to this song for the first time in a long time yesterday afternoon. In particular, I listened to Lindsey's guitar playing on this and in my opinion it's unlike anything he's done before or since. He sounds so much like Danny Kirwan playing in this song. As I continued to listen and think about the song and its sound, it made me think of the Bare Trees album. I think if you put Warm Ways would be a perfect fit for that album, in a sense maybe a better fit than the Fleetwood Mac White Album since Warm Ways seems to always get lost in the shuffle. This one listening experience gave me a stronger and better appreciation for the song because it's kind of the last song of the 1970-1974 era of the band in terms of sound and feel.
Anyway, I don't know if folks will agree or disagree but I invite you to listen for yourself and formulate your own ideas/opinions. Matt |

I have always loved Warm Ways and it sounds totally like BN Fleetwood Mac to me. I never skip over this track. It's my 2nd favorite, right behind Say You Love Me, of Chris' songs.

I don't hear the "Warm Ways" and Bare Trees connection at all. Stylistically I think "Warm Ways" pretty much shares that chilled out/mellow vibe of "Over My Head." If anything, Christine's songs on Bare Trees were straight-forward rockers whereas "Warm Ways" was a very quiet, understate piece.
Regarding Lindsey's guitar, I agree that it is not his usual playing style, but being new to the band at the time, I wouldn't completely discount the possibility that Lindsey felt pressured to carry on in the vein of his predecessors. |

"Warm Ways" reminds me of "Mystified," which does remind me of DAnny
