Default Elvis & Lindsey

I just received the new book Elvis: Vegas '69 by Ken Sharp.
And as I was glancing over it tonight I found a little surprise, a comment
from Mr. Lindsey Buckingham. It's something many of us have heard Lindsey
say before about Elvis, but incase you missed it:

I first became interested in rock and roll after hearing "Heartbreak Hotel" by Elvis Presley. I was only six years old at the time and my brother brought home the single. The music was so powerful and I just loved it. It sparked the imagination of many of us. My brother was a great aficionado of early
rock and roll and I was lucky to have someone old enough to be buying all
those great Elvis 45's. I would spend hours in my brother's bedroom
listening to all those early Elvis songs over and over. If fact I learned how
to play guitar listening to those Elvis records. Elvis synthesized elements
of R&B and country an put it into a form that was acceptable for a broad
white audience. He made it exciting and he was able to be the messenger
of that music, which was still completely subversive but wasn't perceived
as too subversive for the masses.

I forgot to mention it's a wonderful book. Filled with great photos
and information about Elvis' comeback. It was really an exciting
time for him personally and professionally. In 1969 & '70 he was
certainly at his peak.

I think I should buy the book for my mom. She really likes Elvis. Thanks for the info!

Looks like I know what to get my Dad for Christmas. Thanks for the headsup!

You're both welcome. It would make a great gift.
The only place I know it's available from is ShopElvis.com.
It's a little over 200 pages and the regular price is $50.00,
though I got it on sale for less than $35.00.

And Lindsey knows his synthesizers.

(somewhat mercifully, we'll never know what a wobbly voiced, coke-addled Elvis would have done with the Fairlight in the mid-80's... probably not half as embarrassing as the wake-n-bake classic "Out of The Cradle")

Why are you so snobby about this? Why is it embarrassing just because you don't like it?

Its never been about whether I (or anyone) likes it or not. Its about those who *insist* that those who don't like it are A) somehow less enlightened or less developed as a fan, or (more often) B) aren't aware of it because the album wasn't marketed properly. Anyone who respectfully appreciates/defends the album for what it is is fine by me.

That's all I'll say here because this thread is about Elvis. Speaking of Elvis, has anyone seen the Cirque Elvis show at Aria in Las Vegas?

And that's the impression I get from you for those of us who do like it. It's all a matter of taste, and I know you don't like it which is fine, but to call it embarrassing as if we should be embarrassed to listen to it is what annoyed me about your post.

Thank you Erin. I couldn't agree with you more. You said what I couyldn't come up with the words to say ( and you said it so much better than I could have! ) And for the record, I only discovered OOTC a couple years ago. I loved it the first time I heard it, and still do today
