Default Videos from the New Album...

Any chance Dave will convince Stevie to do any videos for the new album? Yes, a documentary, but VIDEOS?! I loved the videos for Everyday and Sorcerer. Anyone think there may be a video or two for the new album?

There better be.
We got nothing with SYW, so we for sure need a new Stevie video.
And I think Dave will push for one.

I'm guessing it won't happen. I can't even remember the time I saw a new music video on tv. MTV and VH1 have both abandoned playing them. Warner would be spending the money on nothing... and they're not going to do that.

Stevie should do a video. Viewing music videos has shifted significantly from people watching them on TV to the watching them on the internet via youtube etc., on demand, whenever they want...at their convenience. MTV realized this growing trend last year when they dropped the "music television" from their logo and became a reality show network outright.

I think it would be ignorant for Stevie & her record co. not to put something together resembling a music video, even if it's just culled from Dave's documentary footage. Warners must realize that Stevie needs to have a presence on the internet representing her latest work. Look at all her youtube viral vids, the Wild Heart dressing room jam alone has had over half a million views, if not more last I checked. Stevie's image has always been a vital ingredient to selling her music and today is no different.

I still believe Fleetwood Mac/Warners made a grave mistake not producing a proper music vid to go along with the release of SYW. Even in 2003, VH1 would have played a new FM video in a heartbeat! Their "live" AOL session videos of Peacekeeper & Say You Will culled from their tour rehearsals were anemic and therefore ignored, much like their TV appearances at that time.

I really hope she does some videos for her new cd. I watch most of mine online but sometimes when I am getting ready in the morning I watch VH1 and MTV. They still play videos in the morning for a few hours and VH1 has their top 20 countdown every Saturday as well.

The decision to make a video is going to be up to the record label. They are the ones footing the bill, after all. I really hate it when the artists get blamed for decisions out of their control. They have a contract, the label pays up front for studio time, musicians, art direction, promotion, etc. The profits from the product then go to pay back the label and THEN the artist gets paid...in a nutshell...

Btw, if MTV and VH1 aren't playing new videos must be why I saw Nicklebacks new one on CMT all summer, huh?

Um... right... sooo... ultimately Stevie would have to pay for any videos out of her own pocket. Accordingly it is ultimately her decision and not the label's. I won't re-hash all of the previously explained reasons why it is now a futile exercise in diminishing returns; the music video genre, like the industry itself, is a pale shadow of its former self. Do I think there will be videos? Yes. Will they be lavish/gorgeous productions like "Every Day" and "Sorcerer?" Hell naw! I suspect they will be low budget numbers ala "Blue Denim" and the two from SYW. Performance videos pretty much.

I still think a label makes the call, not the artist. Just because the artist "pays" for it eventually does not mean they have free reign...which is the beef most of them have with the business side anyway - control. Look if you come to me and I am head of WB, I have to look at numbers to see if I think your wonderful, creative idea is worth me fronting a ton of money into. Doesn't matter how much I love your music. I would have to be into what sells...

I don't know, with Stevie calling this her best work EVER, why wouldn't she do some bad ass videos for it?

I think "they" will, even if it's more along the low budget route as HejiraNYC pointed out. Warners/Reprise has more to gain in record sales financially speaking than Stevie does, being that she probably pockets @ $1 for every album sold and Warners get's the rest. Stevie as usual will make most of her money on the road, and if the album is well received and selling well, that helps even more in generating interest and selling concert tickets.

Tom: Because, nobody watches young artists music videos, there is no way in hell they will watch yours.
SN: I don't think you could tell Bob Dylan that!!!
