I couldn't disagree more, it was a collaboration of CM and LB's music in certain parts... then the rest was added..

The song began as a Christine song that had no words. Lindsey and Christine scrapped it and began working on it bit by bit. Stevie contributed the great lyrics and vocal melody. As Christine once said in an interview in Songwriter (1984), "The Chain" was very much worked on as a trio. John and Mick's names are added, I suspect, to give them a crack a bit of royalties.

Even Lindsey would admit as much, but he has talked about the confusion created because he starts off the vocal on the song. He knows that's why people associate with his work, even though it's not. Michele |

Interesting what everyone hears on the Chain.
Maybe I overstated my feelings a little, I guess I've always heard more LB on that song than the others (regardless of vocals). I always thought the arrangement had a solo LB quality to it....maybe his solo has more of a Christine influence than I've given her credit for over the years. |

As far as "Don't Stop" goes, Lindsey's voice fits better that Christine's. When she gets the 2nd verse, its like eh,okay.
The album version of "The Chain" vocally seems to be all Stevie and Lindsey; yet in live performances its all three vocalist! |
