Arrow DISCUSSION: English Rose / Pious Bird of Good Omen "Superalbum"

For the Fleetwood Mac "Battle of the Songs," I decided to combine the songs from English Rose with Pious Bird of Good Omen and just have one discussion thread. Since there will be 8 choices for the poll, I'll probably make that poll multiple choice.

And so the songs are...

1. Jigsaw Puzzle Blues
2. Something Inside of Me
3. Black Magic Woman
4. Albatross
5. Need Your Love So Bad
6. Rambling Pony
7. I Believe My Time Ain't Long
8. The Sun is Shining
9. One Sunny Day
10. Without You

What's your opinion of these songs?

Check out the sticky thread on the Rumours forum for the latest info on the FM "Battle of the Songs."

Default All The Songs? Mel and Vinnie think not!

Dear Mr M,

If you insist on rating the songs on what you are calling "compilation " Albums, I really believe you have to list them all. I believe that would include Stop Messing Round, Dr Brown, One Sunny Day, without you, coming home, I've lost my baby, Evening Boogie, and Like Crying.
Some of these songs do not appear on any other Album. It may be that one or the other will win your poll on two different instances. It think that would happen again if you go through the catalog.

Doodyhead, Mel and Vinnie
Stop Messing Round - Peter song from Mr. Wonderful
Dr. Brown - Jeremy song from Mr. Wonderful
One Sunny - Danny song from Then Play On
Without You - Danny song from Then Play On
Coming Home - Jeremy song from Mr. Wonderful
I've Lost My Baby - Jeremy song from Mr. Wonderful
Evening Boogie - Jeremy song from Mr. Wonderful
Like Crying - Danny song from the 2004 reissue of Pious Bird of Good Omen (not on the original release)

Songs won't be counted on two albums; only original album releases will count not a reissue.

Most of these songs have already been represented on previous discussion threads and polls.

The Danny songs will be on the discussion threads for Then Play On.

Hope this pleases everyone. Let me know if it don't.

Cool if so, then......

Then you might want to remove Love That Burns and Looking For Sombody.

I might be construed as a pain in the ass but I'm just looking for consistency.

I double checked and yes I removed "Love That Burns" and "Looking For Somebody"; they were already on Mr. Wonderful!

Thank you doodyhead!

Jigsaw Puzzle Blues is a wonderful novelty tune. Danny shows his talent for making a cohesive instrumental
Something inside of me is filled with tension and pain. It also shows his uncomfortableness with lyrics.
Black Magic Woman really should have been on Mr Wonderful. It was recorded in the same style as the other tunes. Peter using a different blues 1 5 1 4 5 format followed using the tempo shifts of 'All Your Love to great effect. A pity that it was before its time to white audiences.
What would British sports be without it. Beautiful tune.
Need Your Love So Bad. I wish they didn't engage the services of Micky Baker
Rambling Pony is a wonderful solo effort
IBMTAL ...well it was
The Sun Is Shining. another good Slow EJ tunes. The most likely reason for the insertion of Danny

OK, since the "can of worms" is open:

Although "Without You" & "One Sunny Day" were on the pre-"Oh Well" UK issue of Then Play On, they were released prior to that on the US English Rose album, so I think they should be included HERE and not on TPO.

In fear of causing too much aggression... this isn't working.
"Without You" and "One Sunny Day" HAVE to be included in this list!

I'm trying to be flexible and agreeable? but also consistent by going by the original album versions/releases. The songs will be included somewhere regardless. If I pull the two from Then Play On, we won't be going by the original release of Then Play On, which could cause a "slippery slope" effect of doing it for more albums.

Let me know what you think.

Again, it's an issue of UK version vs US version. The US release of English Rose pre-dates the original pressing UK issue of Then Play On...so, to be technical, the "Worldwide debut" of "Without You" & "One Sunny Day" was on the US English Rose album and not the UK Then Play On.

I will add "One Sunny Day" and "Without You" to the English Rose/Pious Bird discussion; they WILL NOT be on the Then Play On discussion threads.

Case Closed, please move on and actually discuss these songs.

The second more distributed version of "Then Play On" in the US did not have those two songs anyway. They were, however, in the first one I bought.

LOL

You purchased an import version, or the first Warner Brothers pressing had the U.K. tracklist?

this was in prior thread a few years back. I bought one that was first pressing without Oh Well (late 69 early 70?). I was disappointed that Oh Well was not on there but I really liked the Album anyway. The record company later inserted Oh well and removed the other two. In my freshman year of college. (september 1970) I found and swapped the record with the later pressing. I have the later record but the older jacket. I did not hear those two songs and the the track order until I bought the CD re release a couple of years ago.

Oh Well
