Default Internet exposure.....

the band had also requested a no 'rush' stage until Go Your Own Way, but the rush came earlier -- we were well down there by the start of "I'm So Afraid".

Stevie needs to get with 2010 - i know she's afraid of having her stuff on YouTube, etc., but it certainly hasn't hurt Lady Gaga from selling tickets. i'm just sayin.
Stevie must be getting some bad advice with respect to internet exposure,

I understand not wanting to expose new unreleased material,

however, the positive effect from a few clips of her shows on u-tube would be good for her,

whenever I show Stevie u-tube vids to "non-believers", they are amazed by how good she actually is,

more exposure is good,

Please call off the overzealous protection agencies, we mean no harm,

There was a sign as we walked in stating the artist did not want pics taken, so that is why the camera nazi's were out. Also is was her stipulation that the beer be poured in the cups, the bartender told us that. Of course the venue could have had 2 bartenders working, and people could have had a clue about what they wanted to order before they got up there. As for those people standing for the entire show, you could have done your bizarre swaying and arm raising in your chairs. There were people in my section who were extremely rude and confrontational with those who asked them to sit down. Others who were asked showed more consideration. I understand some people like to dance (if that is what you call it) but for the entire show? Really.

I don't mind the venue per se, but the casino sucks. Mohegan is far superior. At least it is easier to get some food and a drink before the show.

I thought her vocals were excellent, and she did seem to be having fun. We saw the bass player leaving about 12:30 or so.

Well I went to the show last night and I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST. My mother had the audacity to arrive at Foxwoods around 11am that day. I was exhausted just from walking to the car to the hotel room. That place was freakin huge! I pictured something completely different in my mind.

I did not have a ticket for this show when I got there. Luckily, my mother did some bartering at the box office and got me a seat in the mezzanine, left center, row B. My friend from college ended up coming down for the night. Her mother and friends were going to the show. We had a nice little group going.

I didn't enter the venue until about 7:50. I waited half an hour in line for a beer. They had to pour each bottle into a cup. I couldn't believe how slow the line was moving.

Fall From Grace - Well, I run into the arena and there she is. Looking hot in her sequined sleeves and gloves. Same get up as the Unleashed tour. This one sounded great. Awesome crowd at this show!

Let me just say at this point I am absolutely so upset to the point of leaving the show. I tried standing up and got yelled at by some old buzzard. I go to rock and roll concerts to stand up, dance, and sing. This whole sitting thing was not for me.

Outside the Rain/Dreams - Same old, she avoided some of the high notes on OTR. Dreams sounded good. Great reaction from the crowd.

You Wreck Me - I like how she DID NOT give this one an introduction. I loved it! She rocked and jammed on her tambo. She said something like "Tom Petty always has to be in my set. We replaced the former INTK for YWM."

Sorcerer - This sounded good as well. However, I left the mezzanine section and got down to the front of the arena. My aunt snuck 2 tickets up with her to the concessions (my mother's) because there were extra seats in the tenth row.

Gold Dust Woman - SANITY!! I can move and breathe. I really didn't pay attention to the song because of the other observations I was making during this song. SECURITY SUCKED. On the way out, I told some guy off because of how horrible my experience was with them. I really was ASTOUNDED.

If Anyone Falls - THIS SONG RULES LIVE. I hope she plays it forever. It just thumps right along, everyone in the front was up and dancing. You can tell Stevie loves singing this one. Huge crowd pleaser.

Face the Promise - She started rambling about how this was a Bob Dylan song, then corrected herself. She said there was no way Bob Dylan was crazier than Bob Seger, but that they were both crazy. Some people sat on this one. She needs to AXE this one. Big time.

Rhiannon - AWESOME VERSION! She sang so well last night. So much better than the Unleashed Tour. She did a cool little dance with her Rhiannon sleeves in the middle.

Stand Back - YES! Taku is back! She wore her long black shawl with a white one on top of that. This was my favorite song of the night. She got into it! Lots of twirls and dancing. She hit the high note on "taaaaaaake" me home and did a high kick. Huge standing ovation on this!

Landslide - Dedicated this song to her friend Mary from the 70's. Same old. I put my phone up in the air to let my friend listen to the song and got harrassed by security. She told me that i had to stop recording and to put my phone away. Blown away.

How Still My Love - She took off the black shawl and put the white one back on. She did some cool funky dances with it at the end!

Edge - I rushed the stage and pretty much trampled over many people. But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I thought it was amazing that I started in the back of the arena and made it to the stage. I for sure thought that in 12 years of Stevie solo concerts, I wasn't going to make it, but I did. Even people in the first row didn't get down. Awful, awful, awful, security. Great version of this song!!! I grabbed both her hands and said "I can't wait for the new album" and she said "I can't hear you". Oh well, at least it was something different than "I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU BLARGHANELAB" which is my usual script to her.

Rock and Roll - FUN!! Waddy gave me a head nod!

Love is - Beautiful, saw lots of tears in the audience. She talked about her going back for the new album and finding the demo tape.

Overall, it was such a fun amazing night. I spotted Brian from the "other" board, the Brian that used to run it. I tried to track him down after the show but couldnt. Let me just say, she was 10x better than last year. I was blown away!

Stevie Nicks at the MGM Grand
Published: Sunday, August 29, 2010, 9:58 AM Updated: Sunday, August 29, 2010, 11:58 AM

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. -- It came during “Stand Back,” her signature pirouette with shawl-covered arms outstretched, looking like a bird in flight as the band revved on.

Stevie Nicks took a break from a recording session to mount a quick, six-show tour that included a stop at the Grand Theater at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods on Saturday night. She performed a two-hour set that featured many of her classic hits and some choice covers.

It was almost as if “the twirl,” was what the raucous crowd had come to see. They cheered wildly at the teased, half-versions that came during songs like “Gold Dust Woman,” and “Rhianna,” and erupted when the real thing arrived, augmented by a video of Nicks’ younger self as a whirling dervish on the giant screen behind the stage.

Nicks was in fine form throughout the performance, which also served as a showcase for guitarist / musical director Waddy Wachtel, a longtime Nicks collaborator who took up a lot of time and space throughout the evening with his various intros and solos.

Nicks was dressed in black, occasionally donning the aforementioned shawl for certain songs, and also randomly grabbing a scarf-adorned tambourine.

The rock veteran sounded strong on an early run through “Dreams,” and a crisp cover of Tom Petty’s “You Wreck Me.”

“Gold Dust Woman,” was a centerpiece of the first half of the set, with Wachtel’s extended solo pulling the song into epic (in length) territory.

Nicks commented on the luxurious theater, suggesting a move to Connecticut might be in the offing if it came with an opportunity to own the venue as well. She certainly owned on this night as the standing-crowd showered her with ovation after ovation.

“If Anyone Falls In Love,” was hampered by a bass-heavy mix, but Nicks recovered, first with a cover of Bob Seger’s “Face The Promise,” and then with the piano-fueled “Rhianna.”

She went straight acoustic for the beautifully-rendered “Landslide,” and then gave the stage over to her drummer and percussionist who initiated, along with help from Wachtel, a six-plus minute jam that served as the intro to “Edge of Seventeen.”

Nicks spent considerable time shaking hands and greeting fans along the stage apron as the song closed, before returning and kicking off the encore with Led Zeppelin’s “Rock N’ Roll.”

That's amusing. This guy has reviewed Stevie before. He should know better or, at least, his copy editor should.

Glad you had such a good time, Jimmy. I giggle that she started talking about Dylan and then had to change course. You're right that she needs to ditch this song. I hope I get to hear You Wreck Me live. I have not looked at any of the video yet, because I want to see it myself first.

Seems to me that Stevie saw all the Unleashed video on Youtube and was really unhappy about it. She's putting a stop to that. Her energies are misplaced.

I'm against the staff running around telling people to put down their cell phones. That's just a waste of time and an annoyance for people who aren't doing anything wrong, as Nikolaj pointed out.

As far as keeping people in their seats, I wish all venues would do that. I'm glad security was doing their job for a change and seeing how fights broke out at the last couple of Stevie concerts, I hope they start throwing people out who break the rules.

Default sitting down

I honestly don't know how you can enjoy a rock and roll concert sitting down. I can't understand it at all. I just can't. Especially a Stevie Nicks concert where you can dance to everything. Even my mother who is 63 is standing on her chair whooping it up at shows!! Go Mom! I feel so bad whenever Stevie looks out and sees people sitting down---that's not rock n' roll.

Review: Stevie Nicks' Voice Left Something To Be Desired

By THOMAS KINTER, Special To The Courant

2:53 p.m. EDT, August 29, 2010

Stevie Nicks holds one of the most substantial 1980s pop music legacies thanks to her work alone and as a member of Fleetwood Mac. Her show Saturday night at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods casino in Mashantucket was her final stop on a brief run of summer dates, a fresh chance to polish up that chest of memories, even if Nicks is not quite capable of getting them to shine like they once did.

A husky, nasal edge is still her voice's defining trait, but a tool with fewer fine motor skills than it once possessed. The 62-year-old Nicks hammered away in the most general of fashions at her opener, "Fall from Grace," though she had some trouble competing with the robust chug of her 9-piece band.

Nicks sang with an almost detached quality, tugging at the long fabric strands that dangled from her microphone stand while floating through "Outside the Rain" with a nonchalant remove from any spark it may hold. Her phrasing had a scattershot quality, doing the popular Fleetwood Mac song "Dreams" no favors.

Nicks draped her voice over lyrics like it was a horse blanket, which made for a shapeless inflation of "Sorcerer" and a rasp-lined meander through "Gold Dust Woman" that was more insistent than artful. Her singing was the least melodic component of "If Anyone Falls," splattering against its roomy sway.

The show was a dawdler, taking nearly two hours for 15 songs, among which were covers of Tom Petty's "You Wreck Me" and Bob Seger's "Face the Promise," each a feasible vehicle for the percussive jabs that remain within her vocal range. Songs from her own history are much as they ever have been, but her stewardship of them has changed, to the point that she was most effective when she dialed back her singing, resorting to nearly spoken-word handling to make "Landslide" a cool, understated treat.

Nicks remains one of rock's most prominent shawl advocates, sporting them for a number of tunes and holding one aloft while spinning slowly to the bounding pulse of "Stand Back" when not trumpeting its lyrics. Her closing delivery of "Edge of Seventeen" was so much filler in a rendition that had more than its share, from the dragged-out drum solo that preceded it to the flabby jam that extended its back end.

She avoided tunes from her forthcoming album in the encore as she had during her show — she has spoken out against posting of clips online as spoilers for new work, and so isn't giving anyone the chance. Instead, she served as more of a passenger than driver in Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll," but moved to a comfortable finale with a stroll through the puffy "Love Is," evoking hints of the past without ever quite recapturing it.

Stevie Nicks' Saturday set list: "Fall from Grace," "Outside the Rain," "Dreams," "You Wreck Me," "Sorcerer," "Gold Dust Woman," "If Anyone Falls," "Face the Promise," "Rhiannon," "Stand Back," "Landslide," "How Still my Love," "Edge of Seventeen," (Encore) "Rock and Roll," "Love Is."

The Hartford Courant has a review of Stevie's show, once again they attack her vocals. They have done that in just about every review of hers for the past 20 years, come on, you know she doesn't have a silky smooth voice, she never has, so get over it already!

Me either, I seriously couldn't physically sit at a rock show. If I was I'd be jittering and chair dancing around in my seat and probably end up on the floor. I just couldn't sit still for something like that.

Yeah, that was too funny, and how she said we would be saying it for days! Her British accent was funny too when she did the band intros and said she and Lori wanted to get done with the recording and party but Sharon would say "Come on, we should do one more take" or something to that effect! It was nice to see her enjoy herself!

This has been asked before, but who did the drawing that is up on the screen at the intro of "Rhiannon"? I know it's not Stevie's work.
