Definitely Whenever I Call You Friend. Love everything about that song. and have since I was a child pretending to be Stevie with my hairbrush microphone.
I just Googled the song and see that I was 10 years old when it came out in 1978. Awwww. ![]() |

Hi Heartboy,
You do know you can add more options right? Maybe start a new one? Look at all these duets :-) Frozen Love (Lindsey & Stevie) Whenever I Call You Friend (Kenny Loggins w/ Stevie Nicks) Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around (w/ Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) Leather & Lace (w/ Don Henley) I Will Run To You (w/ Tom Petty) I Pretend (w/ Sandy Stewart) Needles & Pins (Live) (w/ Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) Two Kinds Of Love (w/ Bruce Hornsby) Love Is Dangerous (Stevie and Rick) (FM) Desiree (w/ Rick Vito) Twisted (w/ Lindsey) Too Far From Texas (w/ Natalie Maines) Circle Dance (w/ Vanessa Carlton) Note: I did not include "Nightbird" becuase to me, that is more of a "featuring Sandy Stewart", not a proper duet. |

"Whenever I Call You Friend" and it ain't even close.
In fact, I have many karaoke memories of singing this with a very dear friend of mine. I actually sang the Kenny Loggins parts while she sang the Stevie parts. And yes, she's a dyed in the wool Stevie fan. We didn't just sing it. We felt it.

Had to choose the Logman (Kenny) and Stevie's raging vocal on 'Friend'
'Needles and Pins' might have gotten my vote, had it been an option. Really, my favorite duet was never recorded- she killed on 'Hotel California' w Henley on the 'Two Voices' tour and it's my hope that one day she and Don will do another set of shows and release it for home DVD. Carole King and James Taylor are cleaning up now on that good idea Stevie and Don had years ago. Maybe Stevie and Don can revive it long enough to film it and release a live dvd and cd. 'Hotel California' and 'New York Minute' never sounded so good as with Stevie singing prominently on them- she stole 'HC' away, no doubt about that. Excellent tour, but way, way too short. |

Travis, you got the makings of a great CD listed. I'd take Twisted from your list, and I'm voting for the Kenny Loggins on the listed vote.

Does Gold, with John Stewart, count as a duet? I love that song. Or Midnight Wind? Her vocals are white-hot on that song.
Gold, Midnight Wind, SDMHA, and Twisted are in my top 4 of Stevie duets, each one has something special about it, that just makes me love it.

Oh, I like 'Leather and Lace' a lot. The airplay at the time of release was too intense, and I think everyone was itching for 'Edge of Seventeen' to become the real single. It was third, after 'SDMHA', then 'L&L'. 'Edge' was so clearly Stevie soaring solo, not needing Petty or Henley. Had 'Edge' been second, I think it could have been a #1 single. 'L&L' may have been a little bigger than it deserved to be, though very nicely written. 'Edge' as 3rd single suffered a bit (got to #11) probably because the album had already hit Number One soon after it came out. Who knows? But L&L was liked, for sure. And played to death!
