Default Great guitar solos!

I posted this over on chit chat, but just in case I thought I better run it over here.....I love great guitar solos! My favorite has to be Lindsey's "I'm So Afraid" on the Live in Boston DVD. A close second is David Gilmour's "Comfortably Numb" on the Pulse DVD back in 1994. I'm looking for some more long solos done live (where they can stretch it out) and on DVD or at least on YouTube. Does anyone have any other ones that can come close to those two? Everytime I hear them I zone out and almost go into a trance. I love it!

Thanks for the YouTube links. I never saw the Tusk Tour Rehearsal one before. It's facinating to see how the song has changed over the years. All told, I think Lindsey has done an excellent job on making improvements to it. Even though I love the Rosebud version, it's much too short. The two best I've seen are his latest (at least on DVD), the Live in Boston where Mick, John, and Lindsey do that little ditty of an intro and then Lindsey about halfway through the solo, starts slapping away at the strings...I've never seen him do that before or since! The other one is his solo tour at Bass Hall. The intro is more subdued, but just as effective. The song takes longer to get going, however the ending is just as good.

As for my fave LINDSEY's STUDIO take solos:

"Isn't It Midnight"
"Sisters Of The Moon"
"Blue Letter" (simple, short & to the point)
"Go Your Own Way" (a hodgepodge of different takes blended into one...kudos Ken Caillat!)
"You Make Loving Fun"

Live: I hate when Lindsey goes into his "Neil Young" mode and just hangs on the one drone note for 12 or more bars ("The Chain", "I'm So Afraid" (at points), "Eyes Of The World", "I Know I'm Not Wrong"...among many others)

OH, have I mentioned I was in the audience at that "Rosebud" concert??

I love Lindsey's intro, as well as his solo on most any version of The Chain ( especially Live in Boston and also Mirage ).

I'm So Afraid is my favorite though . I like the way he sings it best on Live in Boston, but for the solo part, my favorite version is this:

(Solo starts at about 3:50 )

Here's just the solo ( audio only, but with photos! ):

No. Tell me more. Was it part of a festival? What else did they play?

No, it was just a Fleetwood Mac show at UC, Santa Barbara. UFO (whose keyboard player Paul Raymond was Christine's replacement in Chicken Shack) and a little known band from Canada called Small Wonder opened (it was one of only two US gigs that Small Wonder ever played).

They played their basic set at the time, the only two "surprises" were that they OPENED with Danny Kirwan's "Sunny Side Of Heaven" and in mid set, they played "Go Your Own Way" which was still about 7 months away from being released.

From the best of my recollection, their set was (a little hazy on the order toward between "Over My Head" & "Green Manalishi"):

Sunny Side Of Heaven
Get Like You Used To Be
Station Man
Spare Me A Little Of Your Love
Rhiannon
Why
Landslide
Over My Head
Go Your Own Way
Say You Love Me
Oh Well
I'm So Afraid
Green Manalishi
World Turning
Blue Letter

Don't Let Me Down Again
Hypnotized

OK, that is seriously badass that you were there. Does anymore footage exist of the show aside from World Turning and I'm So Afraid?

I love the guitar solo on the song 'Tango In the Night' but I've never heard anything but the studio version. As far as I know, he hasn't done it live.

Yes he has...it's in the middle of "I'm So Afraid".

Portions of "Over My Head" are shown during the Rosebud video.

I would gather that ALL the footage is in storage somewhere. Somebody knows, but isn't telling.

True! Still, I'd like to hear it with the words from 'Tango In the Night'.
