Default Everything you do

I'm listening to Tusk from end to end at work today (still one of my favorite Mac albums) and I just noticed something. I don't know if this has been mentioned before but if it has, sorry. In "What Makes You Think You're The One" Lindsey sing "Everything you do has been done". Years later in "Two Kinds Of Love" Stevie sings "I've already done everything that you are doing". I wonder if that was supposed to be a little dig at Lindsey or just one of those ideas that was in her head as she was writing and she didn't realize it came from Lindsey.

Okay, discuss...

I tend to agree, I just can't fathom 'Two Kinds Of Love' being about Lindsey. It's too soft, understanding, and loving. Look at the timing of when she wrote that song... probably the last time Stevie had seen Lindsey was when he was choking her on the hood of Christine's Jaguar before John McVie asked him to leave Fleetwood Mac . I can't imagine she'd have these flowery philosophical sentiments about Lindsey in the late '80s.

In contrast, 'What Makes You Think You're The One' is just purely hateful and snarky. Stevie wouldn't directly reference such a song which was such a slanderous attack on her character. She's far too escapist, vague, and passive for that kind of direct rebuttal.

I guess since I'm not a Stevie and Lindsey "shipper," it just doesn't occur to me that 'Two Kinds Of Love' could ever be about Lindsey. To me, somebody like Joe Walsh seems a more likely candidate. I even think 'When I See You Again', for instance, could be about Joe... and that's a song most all Stevie fans think is about Lindsey. Of course, I could very well be wrong, and none of these songs are about relationships we know about .

Nope, don't think it's about him either. I think the line is too generic...I doubt Stevie had that in mind. I'm afraid TKOL might be about Rupert Hine. (barf)

ahh...but remember? he didn't ask Lindsey to leave FM, he just asked him to leave (the room). But he didn't say room. I forgot where, but in an interview John recalled this incident and laughed about how he didn't mean he should leave the band lol.

I have ALWAYS (since 1984...when I first listend to TUSK) thought he was pointedly mocking SN during that part of the song because he sings and holds the note on the word 'done' in way is not typical for him.

Oh, no doubt, 'What Makes You Think You're The One' was directed squarely at Stevie.

And Joe, yes, I remember John saying that Lindsey misunderstood "Why don't you just leave"... that's why I added the little laughing smiley next to my sentence . I have an odd sense of humor hehe

Those interviews with Stevie & John were for BBC's Rock Family Tree: Fleetwood Mac (1995).

"Two Kinds Of Love" was written in 1986, long before Rupert Hine entered into her presence . The "famous friend" is Tom Petty on the Australian tour of February 1986. He is the supposedly platonic love part of the song (Stevie confirms this in 1989 interviews). The sexual part? I always assumed it was Joe, also (Stevie's POV of him, not mine.)

But you are forgetting the fact that she has premonitions and sees crystal visions.

You can tell that WMYTYTO is at Stevie because Lindsey mocks her vibrato. At least, that's what I think it's called. But I still like that song. "And it won't last foreve-e-e-e-e-e-r-r-r-r-r-r-r." Definitely a shot over the bow.

I don't know so much that he was making fun of her vibrato in WMYTYTO. They were talking about how Lindsey was influenced by the emerging new wave scene of the late 70's and early 80's and other singers were doing that sort of thing. Listen to Cyndi Lauper's first album, even though that was a few years later, she does it a lot, especially on the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun b-side Right Track Wrong Train. I think he was just trying to be new wave.

I didn't really think TKOL was about Lindsey, I just figured it was a little nod to him. But yeah, given the time I don't think she would have been that affectionate to do so.

And off on a tangent, anyone here from Canada hear of a show called Corner Gas. I recently saw an episode where they made a joke about how the characters in this small town love their acronyms and they go on to spout off some really long almost absurd ones, and I thought to myself, "eh, the Ledgies put them to shame". LOL!

No offense to anybody, not every song Stevie sings is about Lindsey and every song Lindsey sings is not about Stevie!

This is an old-ish thread, but I always thought he was mocking her because in the making of Tusk video, when Lindsey, Chris and Stevie were in the studio, Lindsey asks Stevie to try to control her vibrato "as much as you can" or something to that effect, and Lindsey and Chris give each other a look. That said, he could definitely have been influenced by music going on elsewhere. Thanks for reminding me about this song, either way.

Default Rupert Hine and drugs...and Rooms On Fire?

Hi.
I remember the stories about Rupert, Rooms On? Fire, The supposed deal of her being broken hearted that he was into the powder...etc...the story of the London sessions and Christmas alone...and the line, who in the world do you think youre totally BS'ing? Duh...I was doing that too...for years...2 kinds of love. "I can see you're waited for...all over you...all day and all night 'Street Angel"....outraged at each other, engaged to each other...but they live apart...and the comments that the fire being stolen...and it wasn't over love...and she left England a changed woman. Just rambling thoughts...

Can anyone figure out what I'm trying to explain?
