We all want something new, but my fear is that these shows are just money making gigs to fund the new album. Should that be the case, the show will be a rehash of the "Crystal Visions" tour (shirts and all). Stevie REALLY needs someone else to handle these things.
I really want to be wrong and have these shows be unique and unlike anything else she's done with new and rare songs, but history shows that will not be the case. It's just aggravating when you see other artists just doing whatever, I just saw Prince's recent set lists from his shows in Europe the past two weeks, the set list is being switched up each night, songs and order. At one show he OPENED with "Purple Rain"!!! The next night the song was later in the set.
I still say it's not Stevie's fault for the stagnant set lists, I think it's the people around her (they are the most cruel).

I don't know that you are right--I think a large part of the problem is Stevie, herself. Another part is that Stevie doesn't have a full time regular band. She's got hired guns. They really don't know her whole catalog of music--the solo stuff or FM stuff. I would guess you can't spend a lot of money on that kind of thing. Any Stevie tour requires some hired band members to learn an entire set list. Stevie's definitely hung up on the hits, believing most of the audience is as well.

Unlike Prince, or Lindsey, Stevie is not really a musician.* She's a singer/songwriter/entertainer. She can't all the sudden break into, for instance, "Sister Honey" in the middle of a tour as she's not the one playing a featured instrument. Prince or Lindsey can pull a song out of nowhere into the setlist, or respond to a fan's shout out request.

*OK, she is a musician. Stevie has been seen playing the tamborine, "the triangle," and various percussion piece.

She could shuffle THE set list from night to night, but essentially that is what she mostly does year to year anyhow.

I am hoping we get something NEW off the new album. And I hope anyone attending the first show cheers wildly so it's not dropped by the second, third shows.

Doing these five shows to "fund the new album"? That's so laughable!
It's not like Stevie Nicks is a destitute, unknown nobody who has to earn money before she can afford to record or release a new album. She doesn't need to do concerts; all five of them, in this case, to spend time in a recording studio, find a producer, or to have money to run off copies of the cd booklet at her local Kinkos. Sheesh.
We all know that she has millions of dollars, many times over. Last time anyone heard, she was no 'Skid Row Stevie!'
She's doing the concerts because her agent and or manager put together a good deal; it's short and easy to fit into her schedule, she wants to donate proceeds from the first show to an ill child, and maybe, just maybe, she's excited to debut one or some of the new songs.
How a wealthy woman doing a handful of concerts ("making gigs??") has anything to do with 'funding an album' is a stretch beyond any reasonable imagination.
As for the concert swag; tshirts or what have you, you're right, she could have much better merchandise at the shows but it isn't a priority to her, it seems. But that has nothing to do with what she sings in her set; past, present or future, or anything to do with the forthcoming cd.

in all honestly, this is probably very, very close to what we'll be getting. I don't think she'll do any new songs but she'll probably switch out one "staple" for another like replacing Fall From Grace with Whole Lotta Trouble. The rest of the show is gonna be status quo.

It's not laughable by any stretch of the imagination! Many artists book shows simply to bring in the extra $$. Think about it Stevie has no reason to do these shows, she's not promoting anything. True she's donating her salary from the first show and that's fantastic, but this isn't a charity tour. When these shows were booked she was working on an album with no plans to do anything. No one said she's on skid row either. But this kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME. And in most cases when only a handful of shows are being done and there's nothing to promote, it's being done simply because there's money to be made. Also in most of these cases it has nothing to do with the artist, but rather the manager. You do a handful of high paying gigs (usually at small casino venues which pay more than arenas) and you make a quick million or so. That's how that music business works, and to think otherwise IS laughable! You don't really think Stevie's manager said "We have some shows you could do, show the fans how much you love them, only do five shows though and only in basically two areas of the country because we know you love those fans the most."? No, it was more like we can get these high paying gigs, are you in?
Finally where do you think artists like Stevie ("classic rock" acts) make their money these days? Sure isn't from album sales!!!!!!!! It's from doing concerts! If you aren't selling albums, you aren't making money from royalties, but you can do some high paying shows and you're good until the next thing comes along. Where do you suppose Stevie's millions came from? She hasn't had a hit album in almost 1o years, she hasn't had a hit single in over 20 years. And why not do a few shows to make an album. She's not Lady Gaga where the record label is giving her an advance to make the album knowing they'll make it back in sales. Stevie is probably paying for a lot of this herself. The shows will only help!

Depends on what you mean by "Hit". I think pretty much everything I note below has charted HIGHER than anything off of Mirror Mirror.

Planets of the Universe was hit, as was the Dreams redo so was the Tracy Morgan version of Stand Back. Then there was the Silver Springs '97 and Landslide singles from the Dance. Then there was the "Remix" version of the Classic Landslide in early 1998. Say You Will, Everyday, Sorcerer, Reconsider Me and Thrown Down, Crash all got considerable air play when they first came out. I STILL hear Reconsider Me, Silver Springs, and Say You Will on Adult Contemporaneity channels pretty regularly.

So that puts "Modern" Stevie "hits" in 1997, 98, 2001-2, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009.

When you look at the songs, their charting, airplay and such... Stevie has done more than OK the last 10-13 years.

Once again, I feel this is a realistic set let that Stevie could do if she just stepped it up every so slightly. She can do this. Just imagine …

House Lights dim …
Crowd screams …
Excitement in the air …

"Do-do-do, da do-do-do-do-do - snap - snap - snap - snap
Do-do-do, da do-do-do-do-do - snap - snap - snap - snap"

(People look at each other - “omg, she’s doing “Trouble …” YAY!!! YES, something “new”

Whole Lotta Trouble - (joyous and relieved applause)

Blue Denim - fans: “omg, unbelievable, BLUE DENIM? Who got the word to Stevie?” Fans rejoice …

Talk To Me - fans: “ah, something familiar but not too routine, this is good”

Stevie: “Thank you and welcome … its so great to see everybody … (applause - applause) … well, tonight’s show is a little bit different for me … I decided it was time to shake things up just a bit so … with that said, let's rock….”

Angel - fans: “O M F G - no way …. YES YES ….. Friends and fans turn to each other “can you believe this?” YAY!

Sorcerer - fans: “OK OK, reality check - but that’s ok … everything is good.”

(New upbeat song)

Acoustic set:
It’s Only Love
Circle Dance
Leather & Lace

~ transition out of acoustic set ~

Gypsy

Lights dim again as the stage is set up with special guest DJ’s Deep Dish. This will be the club section of the set. (Straights do not fear - just dance and have fun)

CLUB STEVIE
Gold Dust Woman (new arrangement)
Dreams
Planets Of The Universe

… and as the crowd is worked up into a frenzy
Stand Back

How Still My Love
~
Edge Of Seventeen …..

Encores:
Fall From Grace (this song has never worked well in any of her sets in my opinion - it needs to come right after something exciting … and not the tired and too short "I Need To Know")

And the final encore, the only place this song belongs is …

Rhiannon (with piano intro similar to how it was back on the BD thru the RAL tours) then full band version.

When I worked for a small venue here in upstate ny, I tried to convince our CEO to book her. I told him that I would work free for a year if he could. He came back to me about 6 hours later and said Sorry Drew but you would have to work for free for 15 years. Apparently Ms. Nicks still garners 350,000 us per gig.

So this could quite easily be a Stevie Album fundraiser.

As for the set list I think its going to be the same ole same ole unless she drops a new cover in there. She toured before the release of Timespace and neither mentioned the project or did a new song from it.

Actually, Skuncles, I agree with what you wrote in your reply. Your points were accurate and informed, mostly by stating obvious and well known facts, to backpedal and deflect attention from your original, first message I replied to. I didn't agree or see your logic of how she had to 'fund the new album'. It doesn't matter; of course, whether I agree with everything you, or anyone, may write. It's good to have differing perspectives.
It would be a dull forum if everyone always saw things the same way. Yet, your (failed) attempt to profoundly bitch-slap me for disagreeing with you, by trying to educate me of "how the music business works" was revealing, to say the least.
Of course, you are completely correct that live performances are where the big money is and has been for a very long time for SN, and not her recording career. Common knowledge, and I'd never stated otherwise. It's why she's been on tour since 1997 with less than 4 years when she didn't perform at all.
Sniping aside, I agree with you more than not! And you likely know that she has had plenty of $ from the past 13 years of touring not to need to do these fews shows to pay for the new album.
So, nice to hear from ya, live and let live, all the best. I need to go back and copy and paste it in all it's glory:
*
Skuncles wrote: His comments are in regular type, mine are italicized in parenthesis.
It's called standing up for myself, by the way, and I'm entitled. I hope some of you may fall down laughing, I tried to see the humor in it. How funny I had to answer such drivel.
*

[Yes, that is true; and nobody said it was a charity tour)
When these shows were booked she was working on an album with no plans to do anything. No one said she's on skid row either.
(My 'Skid Row Stevie' comment was ummm, a joke!)
But this kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME. And in most cases when only a handful of shows are being done and there's nothing to promote, it's being done simply because there's money to be made.
(Duh! Who said it doesn't happen all the time, singers work for money, true.)
Also in most of these cases it has nothing to do with the artist, but rather the manager.
(Or the mother. That Barbara Nicks won't let Stevie rest. Never has and never will!)
You do a handful of high paying gigs usually at small casino venues which pay more than arenas and you make a quick million or so. That's how that music business works, and to think otherwise IS laughable!
(Yes, I'm laughable. Any informed Ledgie, courtesy of the brilliant L, knows that SN's price is $200,000 per show. Maybe, the casinos paid her more, in the past. Now it seems, they are about the only ones who can afford to pay her guarantee!)
(Ye Scunkles, who knows how "that music business works." I can tell you are a charter member of the inner circle by the 'making gigs' lingo you throw around with such aplomb.)
You don't really think Stevie's manager said "We have some shows you could do, show the fans how much you love them, only do five shows though and only in basically two areas of the country because we know you love those fans the most."?
(No, I don't really think that, correct. You know so much!)
No, it was more like we can get these high paying gigs, are you in?
(How exciting for you to have been there!)
Finally where do you think artists like Stevie ("classic rock" acts) make their money these days? Sure isn't from album sales!!!!!!!!
(Got enough exclamation points there, bud? Are you happy, angry, excited, or just redundant? I never said her 'money'- of which you are so concerned- came more from cds than from touring)
It's from doing concerts!
(Honest? Really! Gosh!)
If you aren't selling albums, you aren't making money from royalties, but you can do some high paying shows and you're good until the next thing comes along. Where do you suppose Stevie's millions came from?
(Touring and publishing, mainly, and not always in that order, and there's the boorish money thing again you have such a h*rd-on about!)
She hasn't had a hit album in almost 1o years, she hasn't had a hit single in over 20 years
(Ooh, there's that insider knowledge, yet again! Still, one estimate had her earn $8 million from the Dixie Chicks cover of 'Landslide'- thought you'd need to know!).
And why not do a few shows to make an album.
(Um, because, the album is well underway and should she have needed $ for it, she's had tour revenue since '97 and didn't need these five dates to pay for a thing!)
She's not Lady Gaga
(Oh, now you've cut me to the bone and set me right, boy, I thought she WAS Lady Gaga! Oh no! No wonder she looked so different all of a sudden! Oh wait, she's "not" Lady Gaga, thanks for letting me know!)
where the record label is giving her an advance to make the album knowing they'll make it back in sales.
(Maybe there's an advance, maybe not. Maybe there's a budget where all costs are paid for by the Producer for reimbursement by the label. Maybe the agents and managers cover some expenses for a larger piece of it. Who cares!)
Stevie is probably paying for a lot of this herself.
(Why are you so focused on someone else's damned money?!)
The shows will only help.
(Yes, money helps pay for things. Never thought of that. What Stevie pays for or doesn't pay for is none of my business, but it's a free country, go ahead and concern yourself with somebody else's money and think these 5 shows will allow her to release her new cd. You simply are too brilliant of a mind to ever be incorrect. How dare I suggest otherwise?)

By "Mirror Mirror" do you mean "Rock A Little"? The last hit I was talking about was "Rooms On Fire" #16. The only other singles to have charted since then are: "Sometimes It's A Bitch" #56, "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind" #17 AC, "Everyday" #17 AC, "Sorcerer" #21, "Planets Of The Universe" #1 dance, "Stand Back" #2 dance. Nothing else charted. I'm not talking Fleetwood Mac singles. Finally just because you hear the song on the radio doesn't mean it was a hit OR a single. Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" is played almost daily on the radio but was never a single or a "hit". "The Chain", "Gold Dust Woman", and others were also never singles or "hits" but still get played heavily on the radio.
