I feel your pain. When I was younger, I was wary of it, because my bat**** mother had all of these Thunderstorm Safety Guidelines we had to follow - no being on the phone, no showers or baths, and if you have to pee, it's probably best to just hold it til the storm is over, but if you MUST use the toilet, do it as quickly as possible to cut short any opportunity lightning might have to zap you in the ass.

Because lightning is attracted to water.

And the toilet is basically a mini swimming pool.

That you sit on.

Thanks, mom.

But I didn't get really terrified until much later, when I was pregnant with my son. I was already insane due to hormones, and that summer was packed with major storms, and Ryan was always at work, so I was alone all the time and accidentally convinced myself that lightning was going to come in the window and hit me in the stomach and fry the baby.

I'm a bit better now, but I will still go "yipe!"

Did your mother also tell you not to stand under trees? Mine did. But now I wonder why she let me go outside in the first place.

^glad that didn't happen.

Speaking of getting shocked (so to speak), when I was young we
were staying at the beach. And this cabin had cement floors, so
grounding wasn't so good when the floor was wet. So I go
and grab the refrigerator door......well the door wouldn't
let me go. I couldn't open my hands because of the electricity.
My cousin runs over to pull me off the door, the shock goes
through me - and now he can't let go of me. My uncle jumped
up and knocked us both off this killer fridge.

I don't like Facebook anymore. I deactivated my account two days ago. After over 5 months of "News Feed" and Farmville, I feel socially inept. I'm trying to put my life back together now. My dog is already happier. At first I felt empty, but I just feel lost now. Must remember what I did before I lost so much time to those stoopid applications.

k... just thought I'd share.

anyone here rememer me anymore?

Today, I woke up, and thought - you know what would be nice? A cookie. And a can of Coke. So I went into the kitchen to get a cookie and a can of Coke. Upon my arrival, what did I see? My children, each with a cookie and a can of Coke. The LAST cookies and the LAST cans of Coke.

My reaction looked quite a lot like this:

Sensing my distress, my daughter offered her cookie & can of Coke, but I refused on account of she'd already had her greasy little paws all over them, and therefore, they were no good to me anymore.

And now, even some 13 hours later, I am still bitter over it. JTIS.

I simply love watching lightening! Usually once every couple of years there'll be a thunderstorm off in the distance I can watch from outside my house (when it's not raining much locally). Waiting for and seeing bolts streak among the clouds, leaving a brief but memorable impression on your eyes, is another of nature's impressive spectacles I adore witnessing. Few seem to share this particular fascination of mine, however...

I love watching the lightning too! We've been getting a lot of thunder and lighning storms over here this past week. It's only just stopped raining here since starting last night.

My JTIS, My Blue Horizon Dog & Dustbin arrived and I can't believe how well it plays considering it's condition

Oh yeah, she had that rule, too. Don't stand next to things taller than you - even people - because lightning likes tall things. Conversely, don't stand next to things shorter than you - even people - because, again, lightning likes tall things...

Haha, me too. I know the odds of that actually happening are higher than astronomical, but sometimes when you're pregnant, you're insane. So whenever Ryan was at work and a storm was happening, I would get our puppy, Snert, and a book, and camp out under a blanket on the bathroom floor until it passed.

That's scary about the fridge, though. I've only ever been shocked properly once, when I was fixing a light fixture in the basement & my roomie insisted he had indeed shut off all the breakers in the house. Yeah, no, he didn't. Knocked me off the ladder onto my ass and everything. Moral of that story is when you are messing with electrical things in the house, don't have anyone else help you turn stuff off. Do it yourself.

One of my first memories is from when I was REALLY really little - my Mom was on the phone in the dining room - I was crawling on the floor and got curious about the outlet and started poking my finger in there. (This was a "human" thing for my Mom to do, she just simply got absorbed in the conversation and literally "only turned her back for a moment.") Welp - yeah - zap! Somehow some current "jumped" out of the outlet and onto my finger - started crying right away of course. She hung up that phone sooooo fast! It was just like, "GOTTA go!*click!*" Anyway I was just fine - learned not to mess with wall outlets that day.
