The piano demos of "If You Were My Love" are very pretty and nice, but the upbeat Mirage version is the one that really shines, in my book. It's a great bopping song I'll try and upload it later.

I love her demo of "Goodbye Baby" ("The Tower") but I think the finished version on SYW is lackluster compared. However, I did like "Smile At You" and "Running Thru The Garden". I thought they were stellar. Lindsey does an outstanding job (as usual) of interpreting her demos. If she is indeed going to finish some old songs for this new project, we can only pray that Dave and Glen do an outstanding job as well...just like Sheryl Crowe and John Shanks.

If Dave does do some appearances with Stevie later on next month, I bet he could cajole her into doing a new song or two...based on the fact that in his tweets, he seems really excited about them. Here's hoping!
Interesting...I found the demos for RTTG and SAY far superior to the what Lindsey did with the songs, but that's just me. Goodbye Baby was acceptable but nothing wonderful.

To me, the demo and album versions of Smile at You are like two completely different songs, and I love both of them. The anger takes a different form in each and that creates a different atmosphere, but the menace is still there

The album RTTG is perfection, though

I agree! And Goodbye Baby is horrible on SYW. Also, If You Were My Love is my favorite Stevie demo, especially the Mirage era version

I found this cool interview from a few days ago with Mike Campbell and he mentions his work on Stevie's album:

WEDNESDAY, JULY 14, 2010

Q&A with Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell

...

Do you have anything in the works in terms of doing sessions or production work?

Yeah. I don’t do a lot of sessions, ‘cause I’m not real comfortable walking into a room with people that I don’t know. But I’ve done a few over the years. I have a couple of things. Mostly what I do in my off time is just write and record in my studio. Occasionally, I will step out. Like last week I had an opportunity to do something that was really fun. Dave Stewart called me up, and he’s working with Stevie Nicks. He’s doing a record with her. And over the years, I would give Stevie some music here and there. And Dave said, “She’s got a song of yours that she found and she wants to record.” And so we got together and changed a few things and made it better and went in and cut that. In the course of that, I had this other piece of music I gave her and she wrote a really great song to it. I’m really proud of it. So I did that last week. A couple of songs with them, and that was a lot of fun.

You are just the best source of info!

I don't know what to make of some of these details, though. She's relying heavily on co-songwriting with Dave and Mike. That's always been her area of expertise. I guess that goes hand in hand with the insecurity she's been emanating the past 5+ years. You'd think she'd have learned something from her own song: "That Made Me Stronger"

Hmm do we know of any demo's Mike Campbell and her worked on before that were not released?

Somebody needs to call Tom Petty to help with an intervention here!

Ever since Dave mentioned that 7 songs had been recorded and that one of them was Stevie's own composition, I assumed that the other 6 were the ones they had co-written. Now that I've learned about Mike Campbell having written two of the songs with Stevie, I'm wondering if only 4 or 5 of the Dave/Stevie compostions have been recorded (depending on whether the Stevie composition may be one of the Campbell co-writes). There may have been quality control occurring from the very beginning and so they may only record what they believe to be absolutely worthwhile.
