Hmmm. For me, Nick Cave writes some of the most beautiful love songs in the world:

"Wonderful Life" - That's actually one of my most favorite songs ever.

"The Ship Song"

"Into My Arms" - This and the Ship Song above are from the same show, Songwriter's Circle. That's John Cale & Chrissie Hynde up there on stage with him. Both of those songs are particularly exquisite to me when it's just Nick & his piano.

And I can't leave out "Bring It On." Not only is this is a beautiful song, this is one of the greatest music videos ever made. Nick & Company are well known for having extremely **** music videos despite being utter geniuses when it comes to the music part, and when it came time to make this one, they asked Nick what he wanted to do. He said something like, "Well, what's on MTV these days?" "...a lot of black girls shaking their asses?" "Let's have that, then!"

And they did. And it is glorious:

I love Tori Amos' cover of Led Zep's "Thank You," too. She looks so joyful singing it, I can't help but smile every time I watch this (which is often, because it's so lovely):

And I also love Peter Murphy's "I'll Fall with Your Knife." This particular version is stunning, and as a bonus, this video is him doing the song when he surprised his wife, Beyhan, while she was doing a TV interview:

Awww!

And if I can get all goffick on you for a moment, The Sisters of Mercy's "Some Kind of Stranger" always gets me. "Come here. I think you're beautiful. My door is open wide. Some kind of stranger, come inside."

All the same, baby. All the same.

"You never know what I'll do. I've resequenced my show. I'm a master at sequencing. I'm the one who sequenced for Fleetwood Mac. I sequenced 'Rumours.' Everyone loves my sequences. They're fun.''

Somehow I forgot a few of my favorites, and yes, more R&B since it's my favorite genre

Old school Usher is some of the greatest R&B there is, here is my favorite:

And of course, my second favorite band Placebo..."Cause soulmates never die":

Another all time favorite lovers song, by this great acoustic band A Rocket To The Moon:

And finally, this really obscure band I discovered a few years ago Random Thoughts, this one breaks my heart to hear:

Hmm... can't really think of any favourite songs of mine I'd consider romantic in particular, mostly because my favourite beautiful songs are usually depressing! That said, I'm sure anyone would agree the songs from Norah Jones' album Come Away With Me are all rather romantic.

On the sexy and romantic side, definitely …

Sweetback / You Will Rise

Sweetback is an English musical group made up of members of the band Sade, not including the lead singer Sade Adu herself. They are a jazz/funk band with R&B overtones. Stuart Matthewman, Paul Spencer Denman and Andrew Hale had been recording with female vocalist Sade Adu since 1984. The group Sweetback began in 1994 at the end of Sade's Love Deluxe world tour. Their albums feature a host of guest vocalists such as Amel Larrieux, Maxwell, Aya (Lysa Aya Trenier), Bahamadia, Chocolate Genius, and El Debarge just to name a few.

Sade – just about all of their music
Maxwell / Don’t Ever Wonder

On the more emotional and teary eyed side …

George Michael / I Can’t Make You Love Me
Diana Ross / Missing You

and I love Colbie Calliat's new single "I Never Told You"

Well when we got married we picked a couple of songs (well my wife picked a couple of songs) and the one I got to choose was "Wedding Song" by Bob Dylan. Unfortunately just as that song came on, the celebrant signalled for the music to be turned down.

For Fleetwood Mac it just has to be Crystal...

The other few that come immediately to mind are:

Billy Joel - She's Always A Woman
Emmylou Harris - Boulder To Birmingham (doomed love though - oops!)
Counting Crows - Accidentaly In Love*

* Trust me - listen to the lyrics of this one! Adam is never normally so happy and hopeful. It's all about the joy and abandon of new love, and who can resist a line like: "Baby I surrender to the strawberry ice cream never-never-ender" when talking about just exactly that?! Also - "This bolt of lightning means we're never alone" - fantastic.

Samson, by Regina Spektor.

"You are my sweetest downfall...I loved you first."

Bittersweet, but so beautiful.

I like Bonnie too, and no doubt it is her version that most people know and love but, George's vocals and his delivery is spot on … its as if he is truly living in that moment. It is absolutely beautiful.

As for Bonnie, I also love her song “You.”

Wait? No one's mentioned Songbird? I cry over every version except the studio one on Rumours

For crying Out Loud by Meat Loaf. That's my other one. I think it's the greatest most passionate love song ever written. Actually my favorite song ever
