Thanks badanimals87 for posting the Houston show, but is there any way someone can repost Beauty and the Beast, Leather and Lace and Rhiannon from that show? The links aren't working for me.

Finally! The soundboard "Stand Back" from Sydney, Australia in September 1986:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ij5wc2jotdo Listen to that "Well, I would cry-y-y-y-y-y!!!" before the "Well, I feel I need a little sympathy!" part. Wicked!!! And then her screeches after the music ends ~ WILD!!!!!! Rock A Little!!!!!!! And at the very end of the track, the guitars of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" start... Hopefully, this whole show will surface one day, 'cause it's SO much better than the one from Weedsport, NY that Westwood One broadcast (IMO). |

I just have to post this somewhere, though this isn't the right place! But ''it" did happen in the 80's and so did the RAL Tour, and a new thread for this seemed wrong. When I was a new Ledge member many years ago, the discussion of 'Peace Sunday' came up and I mentioned that I had attended the event at The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, and how Stevie was incredible that night and it was such a thrill to hear her open with 'Edge of Seventeen'- Someone who also went replied that I was remembering wrong, and I deferred, demured, whatever, and mourned my memory-loss. He said that 'Sara' was the opener, and I knew I remembered 'Edge' but this guy seemed to have total recall, so I thought, 'ok I must be wrong!'
Today, I found the set-list for Peace Sunday, and I wasn't wrong! She did open with 'Edge' and it's only taken me maybe 8 years to find evidence of it. It's not a 'nyeah nyeah' at all, just happy that I had a correct memory! The Ledgie who corrected me had a gajillion posts to mine not many, I don't remember who he was, but I thought he musta been right. He wasn't. Here's the set-list from that day in 1982, you'll have to scroll down to 45 or so, to see Stevie's set that night. Here's a list of the artists performing that day, June 6, 1982. The San Diego Union-Tribune
July 15, 1986 Tuesday HEADLINE: Nicks scores, with help of a great supporting cast BYLINE: Mikel Toombs, Toombs is a free-lance writer. BODY: Her carefully nurtured image may be one of swirls and twirls, but Stevie Nicks gave the straight-ahead approach a whirl Sunday night at the Sports Arena. Keeping the spins -- although not the costume changes -- to a minimum, the raspy-voiced singer put on a show that was not only entertaining, but also surprisingly compelling. Some of the thanks went to Nicks' supporting cast, a fine collection of Southern California studio musicians and three female backup singers (one, Alisha Wright, borrowed from the Bob Dylan/Tom Petty assemblage). The strong playing of the band, led by guitarist (and Nicks' arranger) Waddy Wachtel and featuring keyboardist Jay Winding, was especially valuable in bringing out the urgent edge found in so many of Nicks' songs. Then again, the group's most valuable member may have been Mick Fleetwood, even though he was seriously underused as sort of second-chair percussionist. The mere presence of the fellow Fleetwood Mac member -- perhaps her only remaining soulmate in the band -- seemed to inspire Nicks. At her best, Nicks gave tense readings of such songs as "Stand Back" and "Edge of Seventeen," their impact lessened only by the arena's murky acoustics -- of course, Nicks' vocals are not always that intelligible anyway, coming straight from that hoarse mouth of hers. On "Stand Back," for which she once created one of the all-time most-maligned videos, she kept the theatrics to a minimum, while on "Seventeen" she quite melodramatically dropped to her knees and babbled incoherently. (Perhaps the song was meant to be called "Edge of Seventeen Months.") That vocal indulgence aside, Nicks let her frequent, if sometimes slight, costume changes provide most of the drama. Mostly, though, her singing was the main attraction. On the occasional ballad, her heavily weathered voice suggested the voice of experience, much in the manner of a veteran country singer. On rockers, she was more demanding, with her cover version of Tom Petty's "I Need to Know" being especially insistent. (She also performed "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" as a duet with Wachtel, standing in nicely for songwriter Petty.) Unfortunately, for every "Stand Back" and "Seventeen" -- and, of course, the masterful encore of the delightfully flighty "Rhiannon" -- Nicks offered up the likes of "I Can't Wait." That one song -- for its copy-cat nature, it could be titled "Stand Back Again" -- was especially annoying in that it tried to use repetition and rapidly flashing lights to cover up a lack of genuine tension. On the other hand, at least Nicks tried to create some tension on the song, which was more than could be said for the entire efforts of opener Peter Frampton. The veteran British singer-guitarist ambled aimlessly through a set that garnered roars of recognition from the crowd but generated little energy of its own. Frampton, who died commercially after his gigantic success with the 1976 "Frampton Comes Alive" album, is currently on the comeback trail. Sunday night, he proved that he was as pleasant -- and forgettable -- as an undemanding arena-rock performer as he was in his heyday as a stadium-rocker. His effects-aided guitar style may have been fresh 10 years ago, but despite continued enthusiasm and solid musicianship, Frampton now seems a pointless anachronism. Toombs is a free-lance writer. |
