BTW, on the Austin "I Can't Wait" ~

I was there on front row, right at Stevie's mic (we bought the tickets from a scalper right there before the show right in front of the Irwin Center!). On the second verse, you'll notice Stevie isn't singing. Well, she was just standing there, completely lost after the first chorus. Waddy had to come up to her and yell the lyrics in her ear to get her singing on the "Well, she dances around in a circle" bridge.

Also, right next to Stevie's mic was a huge bottle of Jack Daniel's. She had a red plastic cup she sipped from, but then later on she was just swigging the bottle when the lights were dark.

Just reporting, not hating or judging! I drank plenty of beer that night myself!

Bahaha that is freaking great! Was this the last time she came to Austin, because she never comes here anymore. Any ideas as to why that is?

Stevie was supposed to play in Austin in October 1987 the night after the Houston show on the Tango In The Night Tour, but she had "bronchitis which made her performance less than she wanted it to be". Which was crazy, 'cause the Houston show was awesome! So, the Austin show was made up some time around Thanksgiving 1987.

Stevie's last solo concert in Austin at the Irwin Center was in October 1989 on The Other Side of The Mirror Tour. I also had front row seats for this show (not for Houston or Dallas on this tour). During the "Edge of Seventeen" walk (which she did not do in Houston because of this bizarre barrier at the stage), Stevie took both of my hands as I was screaming: "We LOVE you, STEVIE!!!!!!!!" She smiled and said, "I love you, too!"

I'm allergic to all metal, but, for some unmemorable reason, I was actually wearing a ring that night. When Stevie took my hands, a few strands of her purple extensions got caught in my ring and were yanked out! (NOT on purpose!! Stevie never noticed!) I treasured those purple strands for years, until they were lost in a move in 1998 in Dallas.

I don't remember if Stevie went to the Irwin Center for the Behind The Mask Tour in 1990, 'cause I only went to the Houston show for that tour. (I went back to school at Texas A&M in 1990 to get my degree and was SO poor!!!! However, I could afford to spend $250 easily for the Westwood One radio concert on vinyl for the Houston 1989 concert for The Other Side of The Mirror ~ priorities!)

Ahh I see! I'm hoping she comes here sometime while I am still here, but I doubt she will Atleast Dallas and Houston aren't too far!

was it really necessary to have the entire bottle on stage w/her? Couldn't she just have brought out the cup and left a little mystery as to what was in it? I know Stevie was pretty messed up in those days but it seems hard to believe that she would be so indiscreet as to bring out the bar on stage with her! I believe you, since you were there, but it does seem somewhat incredible. I'm glad our girl lived through those days...

I once heard a story about her knocking back the Jack Daniels before a show. Never gave it much weight, but maybe it was true.

Like I said, Stevie had the discreet red plastic cup full of whiskey. The bottle of Jack was hidden behind a speaker. A male roadie came over every now and then to fill up Stevie's cup in the darkness. I could see because I was right at her microphone.

It was later in the Austin concert that Stevie started grabbing the bottle and swigging, disregarding her discreet red cup.

I heard about some Wild Turkey during a Tusk show.

The Jack Daniels is cool though. Just straight whiskey? Yuck.

Oh OK well that makes it a little better. When you described the bottle of JD being next to her mic, I pictured it sitting all out in the open, not hidden behind a speaker. Thanks for clarifying.

"So, let's rock!"

Soundboard from Sydney I have are:

"Outside the Rain"
"Dreams"
"Talk To Me"
"I Need To Know"
"Stand Back"

If no one else uploads I'll try to do it on Monday if it works for me.

BTW, can someone please post the Westwood One 1986 "Edge of Seventeen" from Weedsport, NY? I can't find it on my computer. Thanks.
