Stevie swallows frogs for charity?

Ran across this just now - hadn't seen it before, so I figured I'd post it here. Quality is terrible, but this is Stevie on an Easter Seals telethon back in the day. Her voice is WRECKED, the poor thing. As soon as she started talking, I was like, "Stevie, old kid old sock, I have one word for you - RIIIIIIICOLAAAAAA!"

that was definitely from the cortisone injections time period. can't believe she did the telethon like that.

Don Kirshner was so impressed with Stevie's graciousness during the telethon that when he later featured Fleetwood Mac performing "Sara" on his "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert," he introduced them as "the lady and band with a heart."

Cortisone injections???? When did she have that done and what for?

I think she had to have them because of the huge amount of strain touring took on her vocal chords. She literally ripped them to shreds and had to have these injections to strengthen them up a bit.

That and the way she was singing Rhiannon. Rosebud versions sound cool but are vocally wrong for someone with the least bit sensitive vocal chords. As Mick once said, she sacraficed her instrument for the sake of the performance. At one point during the treatments, she was instructed by her doctor to stop talking all together. She really took a bum rap for that by critics who accused her of acting like a diva. Sad thing to watch happen, but not uncommon in that line of work, I guess.

I really do feel bad hearing her voice like that - it just sounds like it hurts. But I also have to make fun of her a bit, because...that's just how I roll.

Hope I got the dates right... I think she started getting shots on the Tusk tour, which was a long and hectic schedule. In light of that, her habit of shredding certain songs was just plain dumb. I've included some video of shows where she switched the ending up a bit, probably to give her voice a rest.
