Lindsey for president?

Lindsey certainly got political on this album. We knew that was going to happen because of the themes in "Murrow" and "Peacekeeper."

I thought "Murrow" would be the most political song in the album. But I am beginning to view "What's the World Coming To" as the one. Look at the last verse of that song. Lindsey is unequivocally making a statement on the rampant censorship that is gripping this free nation of ours.

Another thing that leads me to believe the song was written in the last 18 months or so is the references to the corporate scandals in the first verse.

Of course, the song is inextricably tied to the theme of "Murrow." They address similar themes, i.e., we're not getting the whole picture because of hidden agendas. If the band had taken another six months to finish the album, Lindsey might have just written another one or two political songs. Next thing you know, he would have been blacklisted by the Bushers!

As an aside, Tim Robbins said during his speech at the National Press Club that a "middle-aged rocker" called to thank him for speaking out against the war and our foreign policy. The middle-aged rocker said he himself could not speak out because he was trying to market his new album and he was concerned that radio stations, especially those owned by Clear Channel, would not play the record if he got too political. I thought the rocker might be either Tom Petty or Lindsey.

Methinks Lindsey is trying to make a statement with this album. Perhaps why Stevie was pissed about song sequencing?

Interesting idea, but I doubt it. Lindsey has been taking every opportunity to distance himself from any kind of political statement on the war, despite the fact that a single named "Peacekeeper" begs the question.

And Stevie's letter to the troops would surely keep even Clear Channel playing SYW even if Lindsey commented that he was against the war.

While I see your point Carne, LB has said WTWCT refers to the corp. brass at Warners prior to the AOL merger. So, while it clearly appears to be applicable to the present day, it perhaps was not meant in exactly that manner. I think he has said similar things about the meaning of Peacekeeper, which could not be explicitly referring the situation in Iraq as it was written and, more importantly in LB's case ( laugh: ), actually completed the first time way before then.

But, I suppose we will never know unless LB starts making straight forward answers about the meanings of his songs instead of wickedly grinning and saying something to the effect of "As an artist, your best work will be open to interpretation"

Also, I have not read that La Nicks was pissed about song sequencing per se. I though LB said she was not happy that it was not going to be a double record and, consequently, some songs were cut (LIKE SPACE NEEDLE ).
