Default Which FEMALE singer do you prefer?

With so many hot ladies on the charts these days, just wondering who you all like the most?

I realize there are many that are not on this list, but these 10 are supposedly the biggest selling female acts from the past decade. I will make another poll with more fabulous ladies

Slow day at work - ha!

Current female singer that is big on the charts?

Other than waiting for the return of Amy Winehouse . . .

Either Beyonce or Mariah Carey are the best by far.

Mary J.'s previous (not latest) album had great stuff on it.

Katy Perry is my kinda girl.

ZOMG Miley's new song from that movie is SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!--but I don't see myself buying any Miley albums. Though I hope she does do more movies. She's got IT.

Ke$ha does make me lol and some of her songs are brilliantly produced.

Britney's previous album (not latest) had some fantastic singles.

Lady Antebellum is like Fleetwood Mac for Dummies.

Rihanna is annoying me.

Can't stand Gaga, Adele, Jas Stone, Fergie, Duffy, probably more. All repulse me.

NOT BIG ON THE CHARTS BUT SHOULD BE SUPERSTARS: Iris Dement, Sarah Cracknell, An Pierle, Elektric Red, and probably more I can't think of at the moment.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

I'm not into any of them. I'll listen to Diana Krall over any of those.

Default So What

I think Pink is such a bad ass. She seems like she is a little bit meaner than me, a trait I always look for in my ladies. Now, her outfits worry me. The one she performed in at the Grammy's was awful. It looked like surgical tape wrapped around her body. She doesn't ever seem to wear things that flatter her body IMO.
Also, Chan Marshall (Cat Power) is pretty awesome but I'm tired of her doing cover songs.

How about you?

I went with Britney. I know it's a strange choice, but here was my thought process. Madonna and Mariah I eliminated right away because they're in a class of their own. Including them is like including WVU in the list of America's Top Party Schools- it's just not fair to include professionals in a class of amateurs. After they were gone, I think Britney was the most revolutionary of the fluff that was left. You can see her influence in all of the rest the same way that you can see Madonna's influence stamped all over her.

Oh and Beyonce and Alicia Keys ignores me and I don't consider Pink a pop star

I like Ke$ha myself. She’s an easy target for critics, much the same way Madonna was in her early days, dismissing her as just a teeny bopper. Ke$ha is actually very talented, and heavily involved in the writing and producing of her music. I find her approach much more genuine than GaGa.

Britney - "Blackout"? Is that what you mean?

Fergie is cool - please reconsider

KUDOS to you for pointing out Electrik Red. I've made their video "Friend Lover" a staple in my sets and the crowd loves it. One of the best urban pop singles to come out in a long time. It should have been a smash but I'm kind of glad it wasn't, just so that I can play it more often ;-).

Perhaps a poll with such fine ladies as Diana Krall and others in her genre will surface ;-)

.......none of the above.

Pretty much all of my favorite female singers aren't 'recent' ones. Grace Slick, Ann Wilson, Stevie (of course), Deborah Harry, Dale Bozzio, Donna Summer, Pat Benatar to name a few. Most of them still perform these days, but the 'height' of their popularity was years ago.

If I just HAD to pick from that list, I'd pick Madonna. I don't like her all that much but compared to the others......

I realize that a lot of you don't like these singers, I was simply asking from that list, who do you like the most - if you had to choose. Some of my favorites are not on here either, these are the biggest selling female acts from the past decade (give or take a few).

I voted for Madonna - been a fan since I was 10...a long time ago.

Pop-radio fluff can be nice to listen to on the radio, but I don't want to listen to any of it at home. I prefer a little more substance and a little less glitz:

**Edit - I'll give Alicia Keys props. She's an incredible talent.**

Regina Spektor
Hope Sandoval
Fiona Apple
Tracey Thorne
Tori Amos
Natalie Merchant
Beth Gibbons
Jessie Baylin
Neko Case
Johnette Napolitano

I like a lot of other less current female artists from the past (Nicks, Wilson, Benatar, etc...), but the list above represents what is current.

Neko Case and Jessie Baylin are amazing.

I enjoy Ke$ha also. I even own her album. I meant she makes me lol because her songs are so clever--and aggressive. DEFINITELY BETTER than Gaga.

Yes! I don't own the album but every single that came out I bought on itunes. Phenomenal stuff.

YOU are cool. But I just can't get over it. But I love to be proved wrong.

I was just keeping up with the Tricky/The-Dream collab, and really really enjoyed the whole album. "Friend Lover" is one of many highlights. I just fear we won't get more from them. I was hoping they'd be the American Girls Aloud (xenomania's house girl group).

I would have gone with Ke$ha cause her songs do make me laugh ("brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack" never fails to make me lol) and once upon a time, I did enjoy Britney Spears (back when I was a little kid in camp, we would sit around a counselor's boom box and listen to CDs like Hit Me Baby One More Time), but I had to go with Madonna cause I do enjoy her early material, like Material Girl and Like A Virgin.

ETA: Sorry, Chili, I don't like how I phrased that. If you like Susan Tedeschi, you might want to check out Iris Dement. (Tedeschi did a cover of an Iris's "Sweet Forgiveness").
