Hejira, I agree with everything you've stated. You seem to have an understanding of Dave's approach to music and his capabilities. I truly believe this will be an inspired collaboration, much more so than Stevie could muster up with Lindsey these days.
I don't understand where this idea of a duets album originated from - perhaps Dave's harmonising on the "Everybody Loves You" snippet? - but I have never thought that this would be the case. It was obvious from the beginning that Dave was producing Stevie in some form and now we know it appears to be an album. Dave is an accomplished musician and has produced many artists, from Tom Petty to The Ramones, all with aplomb. I think he and Stevie will be a perfect fit for one another. I am so pleased that Stevie is finally working with the one producer for an entire album - she hasn't done this since "The Other Side Of The Mirror" and that was over twenty years ago! I just hope she doesn't deviate mid-project and jump ship. I want a consistent approach to this album and I believe Dave can achieve this with Stevie. PS I don't believe the problem with Stevie's tracks on the "Say You Will" album was down to songwriting - the blame rests squarely on Lindsey's shoulders. Some of the production was inspired ("Thrown Down", "Destiny Rules") but some was truly mystifying ("Smile At You", "Running Through The Garden"). Dave will listen to Stevie and assist her in creating whatever her vision may be - ego will not cloud proceedings. I'm interested in the fact that they have recorded some songs that have only recently been written and this should ensure that the original intention is met - something Stevie has had difficulty achieving in the past, particularly when attempting songs written many years prior to the actual recording session. |

I like the idea! And I too treat every new rarity or demo from many a moon a go as new Stevie stuff as I'm as old as the Timespace GH's Stewart has written songs with many famous musicians, including Gwen Stefani, Jon Bon Jovi, Mick Jagger, Tom Petty, t.A.T.u., Bono, Ringo Starr, Shakespear's Sister and Katy Perry, and cites as one of his strengths his ability to coax personal stories from his co-writers... If he is good enough for them he's good enough for me Also "Don't Come Around Here No More" is FANTASTIC and is what could of been a collaboration already.. Whats wrong with doing it years later???

I just can't believe all the conclusions that people on here are jumping to...based on...vague, 140-character tweets.
Wait until we get more info more you cast your judgments on what this project will/will not be. |

I like the fact that he is willing to take chances, but I find more often than not that his ideas tend to be a bit heavy-handed and not particularly musical, e.g., "Smile at You." And on recent recordings (within the past ten years), it seems as if he has kind of been stuck in a rut; he's re-using the same old studio gimmicks and arrangements, e.g., heavy reverb, vocal effects/squawk box, flanged guitar effects, etc. I think you point out what is perhaps Dave's biggest asset on this project- his insistence on writing brand new material rather than digging through her old archives. I don't think anyone else has challenged her to do this. As such, I find it much more interesting to see what she is thinking TODAY rather than the lingering drama of a relationship that ended 35 years ago. I know... how could there possibly be a Stevie album without a ton of ancient Lindsey-related drama? ![]() |

I just asked my 19 yr. old intern if she's heard of Stevie Nicks. Her response "yes". Then I said do you know any of her songs and she said "The one the Dixie Chicks did and the one from School of Rock and that's it." lol

I have to say that the criticism against Smile at You baffles me. I liked the early versions of the song, but the song meandered and seemed to have no place to go. What Lindsey did is make the song work. Stevie's voice on that song sounds terrific. The production is stellar and it fits right in with some of her best work. The song is gothic and haunting.
Apparantly, none of Stevie's failures are her fault. A good producer could turn all of her songs into a hit. That's the mentality around here and it's bull. As far as Lindsey Buckingham is concerned, he is a genious. He turned many of Stevie's small songs into masterpieces. He has looked out for her best interest. If Stevie is sooooo talented, she needs to produce her songs herself. He's definitely saved her butt more than she has his. |

Haha that is sad, but I guess it is better than the usual response I get. "Stevie Nicks? Who's he?"
