I did not upload the upgraded CDs (several of them!) from Maureen's Mystery Box to my computer until a few months ago. Well, I was shocked to re-discover this very different "Joan of Arc"! |

Maybe I missed it, but I haven't been able to find out what exactly IS Maureen's Mystery Box? Was it one of her compilation CDs?

From what I remember, Maureen originally traded her newfound Stevie rarities on cassette (she just gave me copies for some reason). Many of these tapes she just labeled "Mystery Box", and they were songs from throughout Stevie's career of wildly varying sound quality. The name "Mystery Box" implied she received a bunch of different tapes from her source(s ~ she had many, not just the one guy David named) in a literal box.
Soon after, she began selling some other stuff on CD, many of which Lisa and others have posted here. These were the Mirage/Tango outtakes, The Early Years, China Doll, etc, and most of these kinda/sorta fit into a given era. Sorta kinda. However, many of the "Mystery Box" songs never made it onto any of Maureen's CDs that she sold and were forgotten by many. So, when we were having the Master Reels baked and mastered and transfered to CDs, the fabulous woman who was doing all of this for us said that we would have extra time on the many studio sessions we paid for, and it would be a shame to let that time/money go to waste. We all sent in our (obviously not "lossless") best copies of Stevie's demos/outtakes to be upgraded in the studio. Many of these came from what Maureen had herself labeled the "Mystery Box". When our studio lady sent us our CDs, she labeled the non-Master Reels ones that were specifically made from Maureen's tapes as Maureen's Mystery Box, and that name stuck, it seems. |

1. Why are your recent uploads wma instead of mp3/mp4? 2. Why are the files so huge? Oh and I second the request for the mystery box track listings. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV The files have to be that big because of the information they contain. It's nice to have it in this format, because it can be compressed to mp3 (of any bitrate), or converted into any audio format desired. And for those of us that don't want any information lost, it's nice to have the complete audio data from the original source! Hope that helps to explain... ![]() |
