I agree completely! The first time I heard it I wondered what was happening then when I realised I was dancing about like a maniac. That's my favourite thing about The Dance

I didn't like Circle Dance because I thought it dragged, but I didn't think it was "too country." If Stevie was perusing her Bonnie Raitt albums and decided to cover I Can't Make You Love Me (When You Don't), it'd be a lot more exciting than Rock and Roll.

When Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock did Picture, I could not understand why it was being played on country stations for the life of me. They weren't country artists and it didn't sound "country."

If Stevie were doing "country" songs, they'd probably sound more like Straight Back than Coal Miner's Daughter. It's not a strictly banjo genre that has its own little drawer and twang anymore, not as far as my ears can tell.

And as far as the banjo goes, Say You Love Me was a highlight of the Dance tour, so bring it on.

We lived through Kenny G's saxophone, so don't be afraid of a little fiddle.

Right on Michelle. I love Country...the before my time country...Loretta, Conway, Cash, Sovine etc...

Stevie often speaks of her Country Roots...the most demo or outtake to note is the Rockabilly, My Heart...and its awesome.

She has always said that sometimes when her songs are handed over for production she cringes at the overly altered and overly produced end result.

Good Song...No Questions Asked.
RELEASED...so over produced you can't even hear her obviously layered from the origanal demo vocal track. She was on a solo tour and the took the vocaL off of a very different sounding demo. End result...Too Far From Stevie.

I hate her "hits" from the labels except for Talk To Me. It was good but, daTed. And now, by Stevie, dismissed and forgotten...much like the other, "here, do this or your career is deAd...and we will see to it...."
Nice, huh?

I have to say this: Stevie is being pretty smart. Why open for the Eagles? In the 70s the Mac beat the Eagles. The only reason The Eagles do so well is that their sound is basically what country has become. The Mac doesn't really have a market, or someplace to play their videos. Stevie doesn't have a market. There is no place that plays classic rock people unless they convert to country.

1. A country rumours will do well. A lot of country folk respect the mac and would like to do them justice. Maybe if this happens, it will open up more doors for the aging macsters.
2. Stevie is not a villian. Everyone knows, Mick's money hungry. He just wants the money. The tour might still happen in the future.
3. Stevie really doesn't need to be touring at all. It's time to put out more music. The tour crap is just crap. Are they going to go onstage with walkers.

Is there a country version of "My Heart?" I'm only aware of the overproduced mess (thanks, Mike Campbell ) that was left off of TISL.

If Stevie does country, I do hope she is at least staying true to the more traditional form, e.g., "Red River Valley," than the stylized crap they play on modern country hits radio these days. If we can't get new songs, I would still love love love for her to record an album of traditional country standards like RRV; she sounded soooo good on that song with Chris Isaak!

Wink My Heart

I agree its very "crossover country" but I will bet its demo was true country that she you and I love.
I'm sad about the music industry...or any entertainment. I've seen Britney's "flower" more than I've seen or heard any real talent these days. Its all digitally synched voices...set to the same tune and sound that I swear I can't tell if its Brittney or some (and I hate this most) some falsetto guy with a whole American Idol sound. Ug. Its like take the sock out of your tight, tight drawers and maybe if you wear sweats you'll sound like you're past puberty at 26...realize Michael Jackson is gone and you're not Sarah Brightman.

Geez.

What is wrong with disliking country? And simply disliking this entire project? I for one can stand very little country, and modern day country is not good at all. It all sounds very similar, horrible song writing etc... But just because I dislike country does not mean that I dislike what Stevie is doing This could turn out brilliant, and I could love it, but that still doesn't change the fact that I dislike country. She could easily brush this off to the side just like the hundred other unfinished projects. If she doesn't, and goes all the way through with it then a solo album must not be a high priority. That is what really annoys me with this whole thing. It has been 9 years, and she obviously isn't retired...that is an enormous wait between solo albums. And 7 between Mac albums It really is just disheartening. Trouble In Shangri-La and Say You Will could easily be their last records (they are that good) but they don't have to be. Point is: a country Rumours album is so not necessary, and those that think that have the right to.

Have your opinion. No one is stopping you.

There's a lot of reason not to like many of the songs that make the Top 40 or Top 100, but once they make it to that point, they all seem to be in an amalgamous genre.

If it's all being done by the likes of Michelle Branch, then I doubt it's going to be Patsy Cline country. Certainly people can be afraid of the fiddle, they apparently are.

As far as Rumours goes, I don't really want to hear more of that in any form, be it country, jazz, folk, or blues.

I do not like it, but as Stevie knew that Jess was dying I understand and support its inclusion for that time frame.
