Why? 'Cos under all the feathers and chiffon, I know in my heart of hearts that Stevie is just straight buck, dawg. I mean, look at the SNL performance of "Stand Back" - it clearly demonstrates her sadly unsung role in helping to pioneer the dance style now known as "krump."

Do the rap album, Stevie! Finally be recognized and get the street (angel) cred you deserve!

Masturbatory?? I think Lindsey's ego gets stroked much more on the FM, large venue, rock star tours than solo. He's the headliner when he goes solo, but it seems to be a much more familial environment among the band members and a giving experience with the fans. The costly solo tours certainly seem fulfilling to him, gratifying, but not in a selfish way. They're a creative outlet and seem to be more about camaraderie and group participation. If anything, I see them as more orgy than masturbation.

All jokes aside, there's a distinctly misogynistic tone creeping into some of the posts within this thread that I find a little disturbing. To those concerned, why not save your venom for those desperate "Men of Mac" instead?
There is no doubt in my mind that Steve is in fact recording a solo album with Dave Stewart on production duties. Dave's solo project, that he has previously mentioned in passing, is an entirely separate affair, just as the Rumours tribute album is. Stevie may or may not be contributing to all three (separate) projects in varying degrees, but I imagine she is intent on getting her very own album made as soon as possible.

Question For almost 50 years...

I find it hard to believe Stevie "ruined" any "hopes" of Mick Fleetwood. More the opposite...since, Silver Springs twice...and for years! Where was Stevie when HE needed a bailout after bankruptsy? Front and center when her solo career was at its peak. Maybe he needs another bailout from bad investments like, selling boxed wine at Costco's Mick Fleetwoods Vintage boxed urinal Chablis.
If she is doing a Country Rumors she had to pay top dollar for the rights to the songs and the title...and for singles and performances.

To add for her whole career she's maintained the same schedule of nights over days...and didn't Don Henley screw her over on the 2 voices tour...and the years of Joe Walsh thing?

On the same subject isn't Stevie under the same contractual bound deal to Warner/Reprise? So a double recording whammy of her lacking an outlet for her to express freedom in her artistic endevours. Warners demands for a hit sound and hit Commercial songs...and the same for Fleetwood Mac records...so maybe Stevie no longer wants to pray to the commercial Gods...

All band members will benefit from her and this record...if its true.

Mick is a crybaby...and a finger pointer.
And Stevie has always been there...once bitten a million times bitten...and only once shy?

Please, itss only Stevie defending herself publicly when she has been framed as the difficult one...ie...as in her displeasure over Silver Springs...and Say You Will recording conflicts. We have heard her songs from Mac albums as boots recorded the way she wanted the vibe to sound...Running Thru The Garden, Thrown Down, Silver Girl etc...and its on dvd at points where her lyrics are challenged and calls are made because she wanted "Monica" mixed independantly out of frustration.

So, join Mick in framing her...and wonder where Chris is...and how well albums sold without Stevie...and compare concert draws among solo projects of each band member.

Also, she doesn't need to record a new album except for contract obligations...and she has plenty of money.

I know for a fact that she's been wanting to do some country stuff since the beginning...you've heard the boots and the slight coutryish sound on the released records.

For her fans she should be supported, not bashed...and wonder about the "real story".

If she really wants to do a 'country' album, why not do it with all new songs instead of another re-do of Rumours?

Because Mama's all about rockin' the old school. She can't handle new material, she thinks we don't want it. And, to an extent she's right. The majority of people do not want to hear new music from vets, they want to hear the songs they remember and can sing along with...

I guess, all I know is that Rumours was always fine how it was. Why re-do something that most people thought was excellent to begin with? How about this.....how about Fleetwood Mac re-doing Rumours?! That would make about as much sense!

This.

What I'm taking umbrage at is not that she wants to do something country, but that she wants to take Rumours, which has just been done to death, and make THAT country. Just what the world needs - another Rumours rehash.

Though I'm not a country fan myself (I'm still mentally scarred from that one summer I worked at the Opryland Hotel - the horror, the horror), I don't particularly care if Stevie wants to do a country album, because at least she'd be doing something.

I think that if she were releasing new material on a more frequent basis, this would not really be an issue at all for any of us - it would be more of a curiosity or a novelty. If you are a country fan, then you might dig it. If you are not a country fan, then you might not dig it, but it'd be okay, because you wouldn't be worried you'll have to wait another million years to hear something else.

It just sucks that she hasn't hit us with a new album of new material for ages now, and when she does finally get around to doing some work, it's...stuff we already heard before. Only twangy.

Well...

I've skipped the last few copyright negotiation meetings so, I don't know why she's re-doing Rumors...and why the other bandmates are letting her do it. Karen was just here...I should have asked her what is she thinking? !!? And you're so right...why doesn't she use new material? Sharon Celani wouldn't answer if she's waiting for her contract to end...and use them for people that encourage and believe in her music enough to promote it without her praying to the commercial gods...so I hung up on Sharon and called Lindsey's soon to be ex wife and she was laughing and screaming something about, ALL Mine...ALL of it...ahahahahahahaha...I left a message with Micks manager and I overheard Mick saying something like, Ca-Ching...Lori just groaned...and said Stevie was too busy working on the vocals for never going back again, second hand news and oh daddy. I murmured, oh daddy! Oh no! Lori laughed wickedly and said, "oh Jim...you're such a pill!"

I pretty much get my info from the paper and tv clips. When I WAS in showbiz I knew people in her circle so, I got info then but I'm doing other things. I know about her country album dreams...like many here. This does sound surprising in regards to Redoing Rumors...but again, it may be due to what I've mentioned in my post above.
Again, who knows...I've skipped those boring lawyer/manager meetings.

I feel bad for Stevie. She records with Dave Stewart and gets 'OMFG STEVIE NO DUN DO IT AAAAH' and then word gets out that she MIGHT be working on a country version of Rumours, which, as Viv has pointed out may not be Rumours but an album similar, and she gets "OMFG I HATE COUNTRY RAH RAH HATE HATE" Poor girl can't seem to do anything right. It's her artform, should she not be respected for whatever she chooses to do? Would you have told Andy Warhol that pop art was stupid?

Well I hope you're right and your post got me thinking. Dave S. and Stevie have been intentionally hush hush about what they're up (or not) up to these past several months. Maybe they don't want word getting out, and that includes giving big mouth Mick the same instructions. Maybe he threw out the Rumours country album thing because that's the only thing he had "permission" to talk about... Could there be hope after all for some new Stevie tunes?

I really don't understand the comments about not liking country, in this day and age. There is no bright line between country and not-country in most Top-40 cases. Do people really think Faith Hill's This Kiss is a country song?

I didn't like Circle Dance because I thought it dragged, but I didn't think it was "too country." If Stevie was perusing her Bonnie Raitt albums and decided to cover I Can't Make You Love Me (When You Don't), it'd be a lot more exciting than Rock and Roll.

When Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock did Picture, I could not understand why it was being played on country stations for the life of me. They weren't country artists and it didn't sound "country."

If Stevie were doing "country" songs, they'd probably sound more like Straight Back than Coal Miner's Daughter. It's not a strictly banjo genre that has its own little drawer and twang anymore, not as far as my ears can tell.

And as far as the banjo goes, Say You Love Me was a highlight of the Dance tour, so bring it on.

We lived through Kenny G's saxophone, so don't be afraid of a little fiddle.

You never like what I like, & you do that just to infuriate me & elicit grunts of anguish from me.

First of all everyone is entitled to their opinion as far as not understanding why people dislike county. Secondly, the lines today between county and top 40 can be a bit blurred but it's possible that people don't like the country-ish top 40 songs whether they're on the country charts or hot 100. Also, there are still some strictly country artists out there that don't fit the Faith Hill, Taylor Swift pop-country mold.
So basically, there is some country music out there that isn't so pop.

As far as the Rumours country version, we have no idea just how "country" it's going to be. It could lean more towards the pop-country or be very country. At this point it's anybody's guess so yes, we can be afraid of the fiddle.
