Christine's musical origins were in the blues, and the term "daddy" is routinely used by women blues singers to their lovers. Bessie Smith, a great blues singer of the '20s, had a song called "Oh Daddy." You can look it up.

I believe that Christine uses the term "daddy" in this song in the way the old time blues singers did, and the same way a male singer might say "mama" to mean a lover. There's nothing creepy about it whatsoever. In fact, the term gives the song an old-time, authentic, adult emotional feel.

It's funny - I thought this was common knowledge!
I also think of Jim Morrison's use of the word in "Love Her Madly" - "Don't you love her madly? Wanna be her daddy?"
That said, it does make the song feel dated in a way that I feel mildly uncomfortable with... it's still a beautiful song though!

This is one of those songs that grew on me over the years. I too am not crazy over the "daddy" part, but I like the song anyhow. The only complaint I have about it is how it was used during "The Dance" tour. The song was done right after "Stand Back". BAD set placement. Stevie just gets done ripping the roof off the place and then Christine brings the mood WAY down. The excitement in the venue was huge after "Stand Back" and then Christine comes on and does a great performance but it was too stark of a transistion.

You're right, that was bad placement...I always thought a swap of "Oh Daddy" and "You Make Loving Fun" would have made that flow better.
