I love Bonnie Raitt! She has always been a writer, although more so in recent years. She wrote arguably the 2 most successful tracks from her first two albums - Finest Lovin Man (Bonnie Raitt, 1971) and Give It Up Or Let Me Go (Give It Up, 1972) and adapted the lyrics of Love Me Like A Man from the original.

You're right though, she then didn't have as much success with her own work for the rest of the decade but she's so highly regarded as an interpeter of others work and for unearthing new writing talent. Eric Kaz, Chris Smither, Allen Touissant etc.

She has said herself that she began to write a lot more in the late 1980s (when she wasn't getting sent such great material any more) and while I agree that Nick Of Time is overrated, it does have some great tunes by her with quite daring lyrics (Nick Of Time especially) I think it was with Luck Of The Draw (1991) and Longing In Their Hearts (1994)that she really came into her own as a writer though, since both of them have more of her own compositions than previous albums. She also continues to unearth new talent (Shirley Eckhart wrote Something To Talk About, for example).

Circle Dance is from Longing In Their Hearts.

Since then, I'm pretty sure most of her albums have had at least 3 songs written by her, helping to build her a reputation as a consistent writer now that her one as an interpreter and nurturer of new talent is so established and continues alongside her newly sucvcessful role as a writer.

Absolutely agree. If she does tour though, I'd love to go!

That seems way too soon.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i live in NJ!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited if this actually happens. I just turned my best friend into a FM convert and for her 15th birthday i'm soooo taking her to see Stevie! And about the album, i think that is wayyyy to soon to be released in June. Announcements would've been made weeks, even months ago...

first off, didnt Stevie say that her setlist was the same for the past few years/tours because she wanted to get the show "perfect" to record it for Soundstage, and now that she has it filmed she can go out on tour and change things up more...pretty sure i heard/read this somewhere.
and second, i dont think june is too soon for a new album. its been 9 years!!! if she goes in the studio, belts out a batch of songs and doesnt over produce or spazz out about it, it can be done. if people can shoot, edit and release a movie in a matter of months, Stevie can do the same for a new album.

Interesting if Liz Rosenberg is chatting up a new Nicks cd. It was very publicized this year when Liz left Warner Brothers, but it was said she'd likely still handle public relations for Stevie. Still, oh nevermind. It's just that Warner Brothers does have their own p.r. dept.
Did we ever hear how the photo session Stevie had planned very recently went? (You know, for the album cover!!!)
And one last question, I hate naming names often, because sometimes it's taken wrong, but a majorly 'good' Ledge writer, who attended a number of Unleashed concerts, wrote about 5 months ago that the package he pre-paid for, for an overseas show, included the elusive Unleashed TOURBOOK, said to be coming for sure after almost a year after the band hit the road. If you're reading- Don Juan's Reckless (see, I didn't mention your name, just a hint of it!)--- did you get the tourbook, ever??

Yes, she did say that, but she went right back on the road in 2008 with the same tired setlist; Soundstage was recorded in 2007.

I think it's one thing to work quickly. But it's another thing to be clueless about promotion. June is only two months away, and there hasn't been even the slightest peep about a new album. Other June releases, like those from Christina Aguilera and Sarah McLaughlin, have been talked about for months now. And the lead single from Christina's album has already been leaked. Maybe they're going with a renegade marketing approach- silence is golden?

I was thinking how cool it would be if Stevie did this... just completely drop the album without warning, and surprise everyone. It could either be brilliant marketing, or a complete and utter disaster

maybe this is the whole "making (an) album in a whole new way" that Mr. Stewart has been teasing us with. Making a CD but not telling a soul. I doubt it. I'm not even certain if Stevie is working on a CD but if she is (God willing), I don't think we're gonna see it anytime soon. I'm just trying to keep my expectations low on this one so I'm not bitterly disappointed. I want a new solo CD more than anything but I'll reserve any and all enthusiasm until I hear it from an offical source, not some "rumor" from Liz Rosenberg...
