What a truely awesome song. So soft. Still so sad. Almost as if Stevie is whispering. I love the addition of the extra lyrics:
Goodbye Baby I hope your heart's not broken Don't forget me Yes I was outspoken You were with me all the time I'll be with you one day . . . The tears flow freely with this song - one of Stevie's best.

When I head it I thought of someone looking down at a baby they are rocking in their arms and quietly singing it to sleep!!! Oh God, where are my tissues. It reminds me of "Baby Mine" from Dumbo!!!!! |

That's so funny but it's so TRUE!! That song always kills me in that movie, and Goodbye Baby is equally gut wrentching. Even my roommate, who is not a huge fan, was sort of holding back tears and he said that he thought Goodbye Baby was even better than Landslide What about Say Goodbye? I cannot stress how beautifully Lindsey and Stevie sing on this song!! You would think it was 30 years ago! |

It's bass, guitar, and strings (probably synthesizer), very soft percussion (not drums, not sure what it is) and eventually a xylophone. Kind of like Touched By An Angel, only much, much softer. That's the best way I can describe it. The guitar is doing a sixteenth note pattern very softly under the vocal. It's all very hushed. It's like a whisper.

Well - Goodbye Baby certainly is one of the best things I have ever heard in my life!!!!! She nailed the voice, the music (kudos to LB), the emotion - all of it. Get out a hanky when you hear this one.
I must say its pretty cool how John is pretty much following the piano chords in the demo with the bass lines in this stunningly glorious and magnificent version. I do, however, miss the line ". . . and when you hold yourself and know that there were two and now only you remain." I have seen this line give even the hardest people chills. |
