She was a pretty young woman who became an elegant & charming old woman. She gives to charities, & behaves with such class (what they used to call breeding), retenue, & poise.

She cuts a nice figure, & leaves the impression of kindness & inner beauty on those who meet her.

Jim Ladd always said what a nice woman she was, & how different that was from the typical rock stars & industry bigwigs.

I wish Johnny Stew would post here again.

well said - all the negatively about aging is such bad form (hello if we are lucky enough it's gonning to happen to all of us ) - it makes me sad - to think there are people who work with her that read these threads. - just think about your own job and how fast things get around ...
AND she DOES leave the impression of kindness and inner beauty !

Cool

I think she looks beautiful here as I always do, yeah her hands look a bit old, but hello she is 61! People will find flaws in everything, I swear.

Let me just say that that fact alone makes me love her and her music. When I first read about the ipods she gives to the troops, it made me rethink everything else. I've always seen a type of glow about her since then.

Has her poetry helped you through as many nights as it has me?

As for her fingers. They don't look old. They look bloated.

Michele

It's a good thing others have better eyes than I do, because I thought that said "retinue" and I thought you meant she was a better person because of the people she retains to care for her: like Karen. And I was going to agree with you there too.

Well.......no, not really. But, again, I admire her character: her generosity & her graciousness.

I think there's a lot more poetry in her character than in her songs.

Now you guys are driving me nuts here. It means "restrained in bearing." I borrow the term from James Agate's theater criticism of the 1930s. When I see a cashier who isn't getting flustered by loony patrons, I say to her, "I admire your retenue. It reminds me of Geraldine McEwan in Mapp & Lucia."

The remark always leads to a quaint exchange of pleasantries.
