I think there's a lot more of us who haven't seen her live than we think. Solo or with the Mac. I've seen neither. I think a tour's important for a new album, even if it is just in the US.

i agree, and i would rather experience Stevie/Mac live than have a new album, IMO.

or maybe a tour before the album, instead of the other way around...idk

I'm very surprised by all of this, and first of all, I'm really happy to hear some new Stevie stuff, and I actually think that the snippet isn't bad at all, for 40 seconds.
I live in France, so I don't have exactly the same point of view. When you say that Dave Stewart isn't a "name", I say that, here, he's famous, or at least, Eurythmics is, while Stevie is NOT. If they do an album together, and, especially if it's a duet album, I know i'll hear about it, and that's a really good thing.
I'm afraid of the co-writing thing (is he writing with her? I mean "Everybody loves you" is Stevie's or not? Nevermind)., I don't know if it'll work. And I don't want Stevie to loose her Rock n' Roll.
But, besides that, I'm really excited about everything, and I'm not against a tour neither . Let's wait and see.

I'm still surprised some people think it's a Stevie and Dave duet album..
I am not sure I agree with this. All we know right now is that, per Dave Stewart's tweets, they are writing together and probably recording rough versions of the songs they have written together...4 in total. That is all I have seen at least. I dont think it is safe to say he is producing her at all.

Stevie Nicks or any of her management use a computer and actually update us on something?? Impossible. I'm friends with her niece on myspace tho, maybe I should send her a message asking what's up with Stevie. I doubt she'd reply tho.

You can't tell me with a straight face that clip we've heard is a fully fleshed out song that's ready to go on an album. It's very, very rough. Awful fake synthesized orchestra in the background, Dave's voice slathered over the top of Stevie's like he used Elmer's glue, etc. It's a very rough early cut, at best. And he's said all along he's: "writing songs with Stevie Nicks."

You mean like the "awful fake synthesized orchestra" that has appeared on every Stevie album since 1985? Actually in the case of ELY, I think the strings are real. As for Dave's vocal, there are a number of Eurythmics songs that feature Dave mumbling tunelessly under Annie's soaring voice, slightly out of synch, even- that seems to be kind of his trademark.

I tend to believe that there is some serious recording going on in addition to writing. For one thing, they would not be holed up in a real state of the art recording studio if Stevie was just doing this for ****s and giggles. Yes, it is Dave's studio, but there is an opportunity cost involved when the studio is occupied and is unavailable for other (paying) musicians to rent. Secondly, I would tend to think that if things were so low-key and casual, Dave and Stevie would be exchanging ideas via (Karen's) e-mail or that he would continue to just hang out at her house. Even though they are friends, I doubt they are so close that Dave is just doing this for free- they must have all kinds of executed agreements with numbers keeping their lawyers, accountants and publishers busy. This ain't their first times at the rodeo...

Just curious as to where you saw that they were in Dave's recording studio. All I heard was that he was going back and forth to her house helping her write songs and they were probably recording them on some home studio equipment of Stevies.

well i finally put my finger on what his voice layered on Stevie's reminded me of - one of those Kidz Bop songs, or a song they play where some old dud is singing over a chorus of kids....IMO that's what it sounded like. Kinda like Stevie's voice was being tuned out...maybe that's a bit harsh, but it's what i'm hearing.

I'm not discounting the end product: an album of some sort... I'm just disagreeing that this is a finished, or anywhere near finished song. It just sounds like a very, very early cut to me. My whole point with sticking my opinion into this thread repeatedly is I keep seeing people say they think this whole project will be done in a couple of months. That's just not realistic. Stevie seems to almost always have a major personnel shakeup when she records. Just look at TISL for example... how many incarnations did that go through before it came out? Sheryl Crow, Dallas Austin, John Shanks, etc. It's not just TISL either, look at her track record. RAL went through arguably an even bigger shakeup.I just think people who feel this is a locked in and done proposition with results to be expected quickly are in for a nasty disappointment. I'm not saying I believe Stevie's simply stockpiling demos here... but I think it is important to remember she's worked with her "famous friends" stockpiling demos before. Just think of the Tom Petty "Gypsy" and Tom Petty "Battle Of The Dragon" (both atrocious, by the way! ). I think we probably will see an album out of these sessions with Dave, but I think it's entirely too premature to start guessing anything about the end product, what it will be, when it will be released, who it will be with, etc.

Dave's March 16th tweet:

"recorded all day yesterday with Stevie Nicks and never once took off my favorite Alexander McQueen Hat! "

That's his studio.

Maybe you're right, those several who brought up good points. Maybe it was just a first 'rough', maybe he's not producing her but just writing and recording songs to be redone later with another producer. Maybe she's just trying things out. I hope that it's an album, though. Since he works fast, I hope the Dave Stewart-Stevie collaborations see the light of day, sooner than later.

I'm not disagreeing with you that it *may* be a while before any recordings get released. But you have to admit that this is all uncharted territory for Stevie. Not only does she have a writing collaborator, she has a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, studio-owner and record label owner as well. And not least importantly, he seems like a bit of a taskmaster; Stevie could use the discipline. All of these could help catalyze the normally geologic pace of hunting around for studios, hunting around for producers, meeting with A&R people, hunting down session musicians, getting label approval, etc. If this is indeed a duet project and gets released on Dave's label, all of these become non-issues. Considering Dave's work ethic, the resources at his fingertips and his facility with recording, I think there is reason to believe that we will see something much sooner than we would have in the past. Assuming they are still working diligently every day (Dave's Twitter has been suspiciously quiet lately), they could finish the basic tracks next month and theoretically have everything mixed up and ready for release by July- perfect for a summer shed tour! Yes, this would have been unthinkable even ten years ago, but nowadays I don't think it is completely outside of the realm of possibility.

BTW, those Heartbreakers versions of "Gypsy", "Dealer," etc. seem to be more than merely demos. Yes, they were working out the arrangements in the studio, but they were also seriously recording at the same time. It seems that the entire Bella Donna album was comprised of nothing but snippets of these working/writing studio sessions cobbled together into seamless little masterpieces.

Talking

I say that I don't believe in astrology, and believe that I don't believe in it
...yet, I contradict myself now and then on the subject, it's a Gemini thing. Shoot, it happened again. Well, the Gemini in me knows that a Gemini will have certain goals they shoot for, especially when frustrated. I think maybe Gemini Stevie is trying to give herself a birthday present, thinking "I'll finish a new album just before my birthday and it will be my present to myself and it will be all done when I'm still 61". It would also take away any regret she may (or may not) have for her year on the 'Unleashed' tour, very financially rewarding, but a big chunk of time spent back in the past, when there's really just a handful of years left for her recording career.
So, I think she hopes to finish up this solo album by late MAY while she's still 61. It'll be like gaining a year, to a Gemini, it just would be, I can't explain it. "61. Toured with Fleetwood Mac and earned 10 million dollars and recorded my first full solo album since Trouble In Shangri La. 62 starts with the new cd out, some concerts, and beginning work on a new Fleetwood Mac cd. Chris will come back for it.".......
Someone else ( I think quite a young Ledgie in his 20s) wrote a cpl days ago that these are the last years of her career, and it could be true. I see her performing at 70 easier than I see her getting new albums released...

Again, not that I believe in this stuff, but a lot of Gemini's plans do not get realized. But deadlines, like birthdays, can sometimes make a lot happen, faster. I really think it's a solo album we will see this year.
