For those that don't like "Never Make Me Cry" (and those that do)

Interesting... thanks for sharing. This is proof that Never Make Me Cry truly could have gone in another direction with different production. The Tusk version is almost like a little private, very quiet prayer. But ultimately, pretty dull in my book.

While I don't think it's dull... I agree it could have gone in a more authentic direction..

A great version of a great song! Although, perhaps in part because I'm used to it, I prefer the Tusk album version...
I continue to be bemused by people who don't like this song. Admittedly my tastes in FM music (which is pretty much all of it) are arguably... uncommon (?) as I seem to find something in pretty much every song they've released (that I've heard).

I always loved this song, thanks for the piano demo.
I remember in the "Tusk Documentary", Christine mentioned that it took 20 minutes to write it and commented that her best songs are often written quickly and the ones that she spends much more time on tend to drive her nuts. Something like that. Last edited by Richard B; 02-05-2010 at 12:21 PM.. |

I also remember on that documentary her saying something about the piano giving off weird harmonics. Someone on the other end of the speaker joked "let's get rid of it," and she said 'yeah." The next cut showed her performing the song as it appears on Tusk.
My feelings about this song are mixed. I never seek it out. I do not think it is one of her best--not by a mile. But I do enjoy it when I hear it. I kind of rank it alongside "The Way I Feel" from Mystery. |

That's lovely thanks.
Do we know when/who/how did the orchestration on? It sounds more like a fully fledged studio song than a demo |
