of course, nothing can touch the original album, but i thought this tribute was medicore at best.
in particular, i found sister hazel's GDW, tallulah's oh daddy, and matchbox 20's NGBA to be pretty weak. (hole's GDW is a much better cover version than sister hazel's). i thought jewel's YMLF and shawn colvin's the chain were just atrocious. the others were just ok. JMO. |

i really like the cranberries' version of GYOW...i think i like sister hazel's GDW next....without listening to it again, those are the ones that stick out for me as being the better tracks.

I have been listening to it today as a matter of fact
I love Tonic's version of Second Hand News and I had read somewhere that Lindsey thought highly of it as well. ![]()

Yeah the Cranberries' GYOW is the only one I actually listen to much.
They did something weird whereby they gave Shawn Colvin The Chain but gave Matchbox 20 the 'hard' part of it, which meant The Chain was wimpy and NGBA was innapropriately dark and manic. Bizarro decision. ![]()

I don't love it, don't hate it. My favorite track is the Goo Goo Dolls doing I Don't Want To Know. They turned it into a dark and moody rocker and I love it.
I kinda like Sister Hazel's version of GDW...it's got a neat Egyptian feel to it. And I also like the Tonic and Matchbox 20's covers. Oh, and The Corrs version of Dreams is okay. I agree about Jewel and Shawn Colvin - their versions were awful, and I'd add Elton and Duncan Shiek to that list also. Yuck! (They should have used Eva Cassidy's version of Songbird.) I don't really care for Tallulah (?) doing Oh Daddy, either. The Cranberries version of GYOW is pretty good, but it is such a straight on cover that no real ground is broken. (Pretty cool that they did GYOW live for a while, though!) Mike B.

The REALLY good:
-I Don't Want to Know by Goo Goo Dolls is BETTER then the original - You Make Loving Fun by Jewel is AS GOOD but not better then the original. Just because the original is soo good. But if this was a new song I'd Love it more The Middle Everything else BESIDES the above two and the bottom 2. THE PATHETICALLY BAD AND BADDER AND OH SO BADNESS that made no sense but Elton John's Don't Stop is the worst thing ever to come into my ear's at any time in my life. And the cover of Songbird isn't far behind it.

I liked Sister Hazels version of Gold Dust Woman. I especially liked how at the end they sing "taken by, taken by the sky" and throw a little Rhiannon into it! I thought Dunkan Sheik and Elton Johns covers were awful. The rest were OK.
Anyone here buy the string quartet version of Rumours? It's kinda funny to listen to. "I Don't Want to Know" makes me feel like I'm at some kind of barn dance in the 1800's. |

Elton John is a great musician but he really butchered Don't Stop. It sounds like a Vegas lounge act revival.
