OMG Stevie wrote a new song with Dave Stewart!!!!

First of all I'm not one of those people who can't be objective and defends every little thing that Stevie Nicks says and does but ouch - that sure is a rush to judgment! Have you considered that it's a snippet of a non-produced, raw demo? The song could completely change if and when it materializes into an album cut. Are you familiar with any of her demo recordings? I could name a number of them who's final product sounds quite different than the demo. I respect your opinion but man, give her a chance. To be honest I'm not that crazy about the music and her voice doesn't sound the best it's ever sounded to me but I'm at least open to the idea that this could turn into something bigger.

I agree! I think the best song on SYW is Thrown Down, but I think if they had released a snippet of it back in 2002 someone would have said they exact same "Stevie's straining her voice and it's bland, middle of the road music which fits right into that adult contemporary niche that non-fans expect her music to be. I liked that little snippet, I've listened to it a few times now, and I really like it. It sounds so sad, and I really hope they keep the strings in, they sound lovely.

Although, it's just a demo, I think the criticism might be a little harsh, I'm sure if it makes it to the studio, it'll be tweaked a lot... But I like it so far, I like the lyrics too.

I'm just buzzed at hearing new Stevie stuff, I suppose xD

It could completely change, and I wouldn't be complaining! I've heard many of her demo recordings; some are self-indulgent messes, granted, but others are beautiful. Two I can think of off the top of my head that I adore are Lady From The Mountain and Have A Heart but what works is their minimalism and beautiful lyrics. I just really don't like this at all. I'm aware how demos work. I just really, really don't think that this is even a good foundation for a song. It's so... blah.

The lyrics were what was going for the song though, they told a story. This seems to me like words to carry along a tune, which rarely is a good way to construct what should be an emotional song.

What were you expecting? I was hoping for a song that makes SENSE and goes somewhere. I don't want snippets of songs pieced together. This song seems to make sense and I like her voice with Dave's. Plus, I sorta like the music. It's touching in a better way than Love Is or songs like THAT, which are truely bland. This seems to be a REAL song.

P.S. Stevie's voice sounds better on this then Too Far For Texas or Cry Wolf.

I totally respect that . All I'm saying is that's it's really early to completely cast it off but if you don't like it you don't like it.
P.S. I like "self-indulgent messes". I don't know if I would agree but it's definitely an interesting point of view.

I don't agree with you guys at all. The Thrown Down version on SYW makes no sense. Lindsey was right about her changing tense.

We can only hope that even if this demo doesn't get any better, it will just end up being one of the weaker songs. I was just telling my friend that if Stevie would just break down and do some rock songs, she would no doubt be reigned the Queen of Rock. Which would help the promotion, etc. Also, I'm mixed about her voice on this, it does sound very SA, but I love the SA era so...

Anyway, Stevie could do an audio book and I would be on cloud 9, so I'm pleased either way

I do agree that Stevie has a tendency to "borrow" from other sources, but I also want to have to work a bit for the meaning. I don't want there to be so many different ideas strung together in one song that it doesn't make sense, but I like ambiguity, in small doses. I wasn't expecting something perfect from a demo, but I was expecting to see a bit of potential. For me personally, it's not there. I'm aware some people will like it, and great. We're not made to like the same things.
