Default Silver Girl is about Sheryl Crow

From uncut mag:

In the absence of Christine McVie's sisterly support, Nicks recruited bosom friend Sheryl Crow to guest on two of the new songs, "Silver Girl" and the title track.
"I penned "Silver Girl" about Sheryl," she says. "It's an ode to a lady rock star who's always on the road and has a very hard time having relationships and settling down. So it's also totally about me."

It also says Stevie has hurt her hip ... ok I have to transcribe at least the beginning of this article

Sorry, , but I had to at this one. She hurt her hip? Isn't that an old person's ailment?

Disclaimer to above disclaimer:

Thanks, Pip, great info today.

Default Oh, Yeah!

... "I penned 'Silver Girl' about Sheryl" ...

Ha! I was RIGHT! Thanks, Pip.

Well, I guess anyone that guessed that Silver Girl was about Sheryl OR Stevie got it. I personally think this will be a cool song, and don't mind the lyrics at all...

Blech. That is gonna kill that song for me,dammit... I love Sheryl and all,but by herself... she and Stevie need to cut the cord...that is just my opinion. And how in HELL did Stevie bruise her hip?? That is such a nursing home thing to do...she must have fallen or something right?? Good Lord..I hope she is ok and all..she is NOT that old...bet she is wishing she'd taken more calcium when she was younger..

Unhappy She was a silver girl she was just like me....

yawn! I so knew the lyrics would be like that. When I thought of Silver Girl...I thought could we be more original? "Silver Springs" has been in the consiousness of Mac fans for 25 years. Come up with another adjective please! I imagined the sound of the song and sang "Real Tears" in my head and replaced "there was another girl" with "she was a silver girl" and boom it was done for me!

As I suspected the lyrics are flat. As another poster mentioned, this may be my favorite song in a few weeks! I am psyched about "RTTG" though! I like what "Uncut" had to say about it!

How about that latest pic. I love the one with Stevie in the mod 60's coat and the wild "Sara"esque frizzy curls. In the latest we get to see her lovely face up close and her hair better, but what about that outfit? It's mid 90's lounge wear for middle aged women from the "Fashion Bug" bargain bin. She's one of the wealthiest women in music and she's wearing an oversized shirt with stretchy pants? My mom wore that during her "i'm in my mid 40's and feeling it" phase. Thank god she's 54 and fabulous now! Anyway, I am rambling. Stevie has got it at nearly 55 lets see some more daring fashion please!

Default Well..thank GOD!!

At least, Sheryl is on Stevie's songs and NOT Lindseys!!!

I hope that the next FM album (PRAYING FOR IT!!!!) is a SHERYL FREE ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, is she calling Sheryl old in reference to the word SILVER?!?!?! WHAT? It's a valid question!!

Unhappy Why does everyone hate this song?

Why does everyone think the lyrics to this song are so bad? Perhaps not her very best, but I don't think they are any more corny or self-indulgent than anything else she's written. I've never characterized Stevie's lyrics as corny or self-indulgent. Rather, I've thought them to be deeply personal and emotional. Most of Stevie's songs are about her life or experiences she's had, so it is clear that they mean a great deal to her. I can imagine how hard but also how relieving it must be for her to tell her whole life through song.

As for "Silver Girl," I think it has more to do with Stevie than Sheryl. Sure, it was written about Sheryl, but Sheryl's life has mirrored Stevie's so much that Stevie is nearly writing about her own experiences.

I'll wait until I hear the song before I pass judgement.

And thanks Pip for the transcription.

Ejof17, you are a three alarm riot. I laughed my a** off at this.

As far as these lyrics go, I don't mind them. They may come off well, depending on the music. The reviewer who mentioned Stevie's "Narcissistic hymns to, well, Stevie Nicks" was painfully close to home. There are certain songs ("Juliet" and "Sweet Girl" come to mind) that hit me that way. Regardless of their success melodically or lyrically, I am not that moved by them. No big whoop, really. You can't please all of the people all of the time. When Miss N does hit one out of the park, that sucker flies for miles. God knows, I am one of the people in a puddle at the apron of the stage during HAEWAFY at every show I am at.

But, there have always been certain "hymns" that don't hit me for whatever reason. As one of my buddies (who is not a Stevie fan) said to me, "Dude, most of her songs are about being a woman and a rock star. I am neither. What the hell could those songs possibly mean to me ?"

This has always made me laugh. Usually her delivery pulls me into the song. But when it doesn't, and the song is a kind of dirge about how hard it is to be a woman and a rock star, I think my buddy has a point.

Perhaps on a booty call with her friend who's the subject of another song, Everybody Finds Out?
Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Could "Silver Girl" have come from the Simon and Garfunkle "Bridge Over Troubled Waters?"

Sail on silvergirl,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.

Smile Hm...

Miriamswell, those seem like Lyrics Stevie would really appreciate. I wouldn't doubt it if that's where she got the idea.
