I'm sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but, are there any really good quality live versions of Silver Springs before Rumours out there? I've seen two on youtube...but both sound a little off. I was wondering how many times they played Silver Springs before they took it off the record, and if there are any recordings out there?

when you say "off," do you mean the band was off (as in out of tune etc) or the recording is bad? am thinking you mean the former...
the only ones i know of and have are kansas city '77 (although i am fairly 99%certain the tape i have is mislabeled and the performance is really from '76 as the band only did silver springs a few times in '76 and not in '77) and the other is milwaukee. i think the quality on milwaukee is better. i could officially die happy if film surfaced of these early silver spring performances. that, and the unedited (video) sara from st.louis '79. |

Was Silver Springs well known in the fan community before it resurfaced for the Dance tour? How was it received?

As far as NON obsessed fans Im guessing some people might have heard of it. For example my mom had Rumours and Tusk in her record collection (just like pretty much everyone else her age) and Im guessing she had the single Go Your Own Way because when the 97 version of Silver Springs started to be played and i told her it was a new song she said "no, its old". Funny side story, the 97 version of Silver Springs came out about the same time as a Leanne Rhimmes album and I thought I heard a DJ introduce the song as being by her and for several months I kept wondering what the hell happened to Leanne's voice! |

When the Go Your Own Way single came out, both GYOW and Silver Springs were all over the radio in Connecticut (Hartford area). The album rock stations (not the Top 40 stations) played both sides of the single, and I would say probably Silver Springs was played just as many times as GYOW. Once the Rumours album was released, however, Silver Springs was played less frequently.

Thanks for the information -- The Dance was the second Mac album I heard, so it's always been part of the catalogue for me, so I keep forgetting that it hasn't always been 'out there'.
Was there much excitement when it was resurrected? A 'Storms' moment? ![]() |

I have a question about Silver Springs... actually, about "Wish You Were Here".
Does the intro to WYWH not sound just like the intro to Silver Springs?!

Not quite the same, Mich. I address the differences in an old post. If I knew how to use the Search feature, I'd dig it up.

I knew about Silver Springs because my local radio station started playing it in the very late 70's, and because they got so many requests for it, continued to play it often. It took me forever to figure out that it wasn't on any album!

I remember hearing the original Silver Springs on the radio in the '90s before The Dance. My local classic rock station played it once or twice... and I was like "WTF is this??"
. I didn't have the Chain box set, and the internet was in it's infancy... so I wasn't familiar with the song, or it's history. |
