Default Violet and Blue on the radio? (plus other Mainstram Rock honors)

I found a reference book with every artist's appearances on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. I had known previously of some Wild Heart non-single songs that were played on the radio, but one entry surprised me.

This book said "Violet and Blue" went to #19 on that chart, and stayed on for eight weeks. Not too shabby.

This book, from 2002, also said that Stevie was the 43rd all-time most successful artist on that specific chart. It was remarkable how few women were on their top 100 list. If I remember correctly, Pat Benatar and Heart were the only women ahead of her. Christine counts since FM was listed, and there was Joan Jett and Grace Slick as part of Jefferson Airplane/Starship. So basically Stevie was in rare company in a group of seven women amongs scads of mean.

I know Gold Dust Woman used to play on the radio all the time in the late 70's and Landslide wasn't ever a single until The Dance. I also used to hear Enchanted in 83-84 a few times and Sister Honey once or twice in '87. Back then they played more requests / dj's had more freedom.

In the 80's there was a rock station here that played Stevie's music a lot. One day I'm cruising along and V&B comes on. I was all OMG WTF is this? After the song ended the DJ gives and says it's on the new Against All Odds ST. Well, after I wiped my seat off, I drove to the nearest record store and got a copy.

BTW this station was so cool they even played the electric slide version of Crying In The Night.

I used to hear violet and blue all the time in Chicago. I believe Nothing Ever Changes got played a handful of times too.

BTW...what exactly is a "violet and blue morning?"

Maybe a sad morning after a one night stand, when that person is now gone. A relationship that won't last/won't be there in the morning.

I love this song! I Need To Know is either good or bad, solely based on the fact if Stevie tries to scream "take your violet and blue mornings with YOOOUUUUU!" at the end.

Back in the day DC/101 (Wash, DC) played a lot of Stevie. I recall hearing the following non-singles:

Outside the Rain
Enchanted
Nothing Ever Changes
Violet and Blue
Imperial Hotel
Long Way To Go

... they even played "Alice" once, this was before OSOTM came out.

Yes- DC101 was largely responsible for my Stevie/Mac fandom, especially when they played entire albums at midnight (I recorded BD and Mirage back in the day...).

I remembered that "Sleeping Angel" was often played right before the Howard Stern show, and I also recall hearing "One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star" being played around the RAL release date.

Yes Hejira, you just refreshed my drink - I think I do recall them playing One More Big Time Rock N Roll Star ... gosh, just thinking of that song now makes me want to break out some Stevie today - and I think I will :-).
