One of the more jarring culture shock moments experienced when relocating from Long Island to Phoenix was the concept of cars pulling to the side of the road to give way to speeding/blaring ambulances/firetrucks/police cars in pursuit. We do no such thing in Suffolk County! |

I'm in NJ just across the river from NYC. They have been hyping this up to be a huge storm since Thursday night. Right now we have maybe an inch.

It's been 2 and a half hours since my last post. Still no snow. Some girl on the radio just called in to the station to report she is driving in a blizzard and her location is about an hour south of mine, so I guess it could be here soon.

Here's an update on my end - in the past 2 hours the snow has picked up. We probably have 4 inches now. They are saying 1-2 inches an hour overnight for a total somewhere between 10-12 inches. So, sit tight...it really will get there if you are north and east of NYC. |

I went to bed shortly after my last post. I woke up this morning to discover the huge expected blizzard dumped an inch of snow on us. Turned out to be a whole lotta nothing.

We got slammed here on Long Island. I'm not sure how much, but the snow drifts are at least about 3 feet high in front of the patio and in front of the driveway.

In just the short time I've been on The Ledge this morning we've gone from a quiet pleasant morning to a full snowstorm. I love when it snows. It is so beautiful, like a winter wonderland. When it snows, let it snow. We might as well have 3 feet. Let's make it fun for the kids! Plus it puts more people to work plowing and in the Spring it delivers more water to the earth.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. |

They always seem to happen in December and January when I'm home, and by the time I get back in February, it's just the *fun* ice.

here in Oklahoma, and plenty of cars still abandoned on the highway due to the Christmas Eve storm (14.1" of snow at the OKC airport).
I spent most of Saturday driving home from Lubbock, TX (Where my older brother lives) and I have to say West Texans are NOT the smartest when it comes to ice/snow...I-27 Northbound (From Lubbock to Plainview) was an ice-rink with cars since the D.O.T. didnt clear the roads, so those who werent accustomed to ice/snow THOUGHT they could drive on the roads...However, they couldnt. Those in OKC, who are just recovering from the last storm, have 2 more upcoming rounds later this week to contend with... Ah, the joys of winter.

we too got 14 more inches on christmas eve, to go w/ the foot we already had~ everything was shut down~ when i got up on christmas morning & was watching the news, my house was on it, because the 50 mile an hour winds that came w/ the storm blew down power lines~ i saw at 2 am, 2 huge explosions right outside my window~ we didn't have power, heat or anything for nearly 3 hours & it was like 2* out~
so i sat on my couch w/ my dog, wrapped in many blankets, by candlelight, w/ my little battery operated radio, trying to find some sort of news~ but all the stations kept playing f mac & stevie christmas songs, i **** you not, i bet during that 3 hours i hears f amc & stevie 18 times~ it was during 'silent night' that i was praying about the power coming back on, & bam, it did~ those oppd wrkers were my christmas miracles, i can't believe they braved that horrid storm & winds so quickly to get me warm~ i also have to say i really felt loved on christmas day~ it was horrid weather, the deepest snow i have seen in a long ass time, & my brothers, picked up ma, in their german tanks (they have huge trucks) & made it here to eat prime rib w/ me & they brought me an electric blanket~ i love them boys!!!~ |
