Ok, so I've been a fan since February '93, and have been frequenting the Fleetwood Mac message boards since '97 or '98, and have rabidly followed everything Stevie and the Mac have done the past 17 years. I remember all the TISL demos being leaked out to the fans like it was yesterday, yet I just discovered this one today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHemfyjSVAs I've heard another much more rudimentary demo of Bombay Sapphires, but never this one. I love it so much, and I can't stop listening to it! I hate so badly that Stevie nixed (ba dum-bum!) the verse that goes: "but that's my dream, so it seems... to still see dreams, when there are none" That's perhaps one of the most "Stevie" sentiments she's ever sung. It sums up so well who she is, and why she's in the music biz. I know the story of Bombay Sapphires... it's the only song of hers that she produced herself, and that was because she had tried several people, and they just couldn't get it right. I hear this version, and I actually prefer it to the album one. It's just so much... deeper. I wonder what it was about this take that she didn't like? Anyone else have thoughts on this demo? |

Cool, thanks. Definately deeper than the album cut.
Is there any way to download utube stuff? I know you can save but if the video gets taken down, it's gone and you have nothing. Can't figure a way to get it directly onto my pc. |

I especially like the self harmonies she starts at 3:00 with "it's Bombay Sapphires..." that whole lower and upper register blend... beautiful. Looks like yet another example where I love the demo more than the finished product.
Looks like fellow Ledgie NailatiXela posted this on YouTube... maybe she can chime in about what she knows of this demo, and if she can post the mp3 somewhere . |

I agree...This outtake is better than the final version she produced w Macy Gray singing harmony...Nobody sings better harmony along Stevie than Stevie herself.
This is not a demo...to those that have just discovered it. It was actually an outtake, and featured on the same european CD acetate pressing (I believe it was a german pressing of finished songs before they edited it down to the final 13) that gave us the other TISL outtakes: "Thrown Down" (aka "wall of sound" version feat. Lindsey on guitar & vocals) "My Heart", I Miss You (Extended Alt. mix w musical interlude) & finally this PERFECT outtake version of Bombay Sapphires. It's been in circulation since early 2005 around the time "My Heart started circulating...... Stevie mentioned in several interviews that BS almost didnt make the CD, and that 2 or 3 producers, including Dallas Austin, had their take at it...but it wasn't quite right. I disagree...whoever produced this version got it right!!! It's stripped down and much more intimate than the CD version.....like dusk setting on the beach....perfection!!! ![]() This version is one of my top 5 favorite songs from TISL. the other version does not even come close! It's a great example of the impact a producer's instincts have overall! and why Sheryl Crow should have been nixed from the producer's chair except for maybe "Candlebright". I think Sheryl also produced "My Heart" unless Mike Campell & Stevie did.....I also suspect that John Shanks produced the wall of sound version of Thrown Down. But I would love to know if this is the Dallas Austin version of Bombay Sapphires. The acoustic demo version of TISL that's been circulating, I also believe is Dallas, he has such a distictive sound to his acoustic guitar just listen to "Secret" by Madonna or "Unpretty" by TLC and I think you will also be convinced that the TISL acoustic guitar demo is Dallas and Stevie working out the song. I'm glad you like my video. I posted it a while ago (haven't put up any yt videos in ages) I don't have the mp3 though actually. It's one of them that I lost the file for on my computer but is still on youtube.
Hey louie it just happens that we miss things every now and then...I haven't been following the band like I am now for as long as you, but I just happened to come across it when I'm sure someone kind posted the download link to it. Christopher knows much more about the history of this song then I do! Sorry back then I didn't know the difference between an outtake and a demo. Maybe you all should check out some of my other videos? It is great to find things you have never heard before. |

I believe Stevie initially wanted Sting to sing backup on this song... and I think with him in mind and on back-up vocals this is the version we probably would have got on TISL. It definitely has a Sting sound to it from the era... I prefer this version over the cd version too.
I'll upload the mp3. http://www.mediafire.com/?zwjw2iqzzyf Last edited by MacMan; 11-23-2009 at 07:15 PM.. |

http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/sear...f%20my%20heart This isn't the first time Stevie has ripped off Sting either... Edge Of 17 heavily borrowed the guitar and drum track on The Police's "Bring On The Night." Check it out here: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/sear...%20the%20night |

The Edge of 17/Bring on the Night similarities really bum me out...that guitar riff...whenever I hear it, makes me soooo happy. Oh well, the Edge of17 version is way better
