Default Sara

Have we ever determined whether Stevie is, in fact, playing piano on the final version? There are 2 distinct piano tracks. If you pan your stereo to the right channel you can hear the original tack piano that's on all the boots (Cleaning Lady version et al). This is Stevie playing? Also, were there other musicians playing? I seem to recall reading here that it's not John on bass.

So, who is playing the other piano part (left channel)? Christine?

The best person to answer this question would be David.

I have no idea who plays the piano on it. I didn't even know there were two piano tracks. I thought it was a single track that was panned left to right & back, one side phased slightly slower than the other.

yeah, there's 2 tracks there. it's actually a neat effect because at times they are completely in sync with each other and you get this neat little chorus effect going on.

Stevie gave an interview in 1994 and said that it is indeed she who is playing piano on "Sara". She says that hardly anyone knows it, but it's definitely her.

This is the same interview where Stevie revealed that all of the lyrics to "The Chain" were hers.

Ahh,
This would explain why Sara in the Fleetwood Mac Anthology sounds a little basic.

It sounds a lot like the piano on a "Sara" demo of just Stevie singing & playing. She clonks away in her unmusical, off-the-beat way so charmingly!

Ahh, I always thought she wrote all the lyrics to The Chain, but wasn't absolutely sure because the liner notes credit all the members.

They all wrote separate parts of the instrumental. I think Lindsey wrote a line of the lyrics - "listen to the wind blow" - and then all the members wrote the parts of the song concerning their instrument.
