Default Rhiannon cover by Brooke White

So Brooke White was on American Idol in 2008 and she just released an iTunes exclusive with a cover of Rhiannon.
I think she does it really well, I wish she would have performed it on Idol.
But here are 2 videos of her doing it this year.
The first has better video quality and I think she looks very early Stevie-ish, esp her hair.
But the second one has better sound quality.

For some reason, Rhiannon is about the only song of Stevie's or the Mac that just makes my skin crawl when somebody tries to cover it. I don't have a problem with Mac/Stevie covers at all. In fact, I rather enjoy seeing what another artist can do with a classic Mac/Stevie tune. I think the Dixie Chicks version of Landslide actually blows away the original 1975 Mac recording. I'm ashamed to say I even enjoyed Lindsay Lohan's take on Edge of 17. What Matchbox Twenty did with Never Going Back Again was pure genius. But it just feels so very wrong to to hear somebody else try and do Rhiannon. For whatever reason, it's one of the only songs in the world that I think nobody should touch. I can't really justify why I feel this way. Rhiannon is far from my favorite Stevie song, so it has nothing to do with that either. I guess it's just such an iconic song, and the textbook signature song by an equally iconic and infinitely unique legend. It'd be like somebody rewriting JRR Tolkein's Lord Of The Rings and putting their own interpretive spin on it. It just shouldn't happen out of respect. I have to say, I actually kinda like what Brooke did with the song... it's very Stevie. But still, it just doesn't seem right for anyone else to trespass on this one tune. Hell, I don't even know if I like Stevie herself singing it these days. It's almost like Rhiannon was a live person... and she died in the late 70s/early 80s, and I don't want people digging her up and dancing with her. Again, I have no problem with cover songs by any artist... just this one. I don't know what I'm saying... does anyone else??

I understand what you mean, but I can’t say I feel that way about Rhiannon and this cover personally. I also agree that the Dixie Chicks’ version of Landslide has more feeling in it than the original Fleetwood Mac recording, and the Smashing Pumpkins’ version definitely has even more than both of them. However, nothing beats a live Stevie version!

I think Brooke does a fantastic job here. I remember seeing her perform an acoustic Love is a Battlefield on American Idol, which was also fantastic. It would’ve been great to see her do Rhiannon on the show.
