Default Question about "Angel"

I've seen lyrics of the song on a couple of different websites where the line, "We both pretend, there was an ending, there really was no end" is in place of "And we both pretend, no great pretender".

Is this an alternate take?

On a side note, does anyone have any alternate versions of the song, live or otherwise? One of my favorites, would love to hear different versions.

Thanks as always!

Hmm. I can't remember if I've heard that before, but have a look through here ( search > "angel"). Maybe it's hiding. http://www.mediafire.com/soup

That alternate line appears in the Tusk music book. I bought it not long after Tusk came out. I don't know how to read music, but I got it for the artwork, photos...but mostly for the lyrics (which as we know, weren't included with the album).

At that time, I remember seeing that the line wasn't included in the song, and thought it was interesting. I forgot about it many years ago -- until now.
I don't think it was ever included in any recorded version of the song. It was a fluke.

The line actually reads: "...there was an end, but there was no ending."
