Default What is Lindsey's best songs post-TUSK?

For science!

Wow... I can't even vote yet. I have to think about this.

OFFICIAL Releases Only!

Law and Order
Mirage
Go Insane
Tango in the Night
Out of the Cradle
Say You Will
Under the Skin
Gift of Screws (2008 official release)

(note how my question mangled the English language... this is due to the fact that I feel somehow my previous wordings tilted the results... there's NO correspondence between the two Stevie polls. odd)

Let me think out loud:

L&O -- Trouble, Shadow of the West
Mirage -- x
Go Insane -- Those first four tracks!
TITN -- x
Out of the Cradle -- Countdown & just the general sound and achievement of the thing
SYW -- Steal Your Heart Away (better than the entirety of Out of the Cradle?), Bleed to Love Her, Red Rover, plus the Dylan cover bonus track.
UTS -- SGCYM, TFTS, SYH, UTS... SUD & CAD are so much better live
GOS -- tracks 4-8!!!! plus those beautiful last two tracks... and that kick-butt first track. wow! go lindsey!!!

IDK... this is hard! For me, it's between Stevie-on-SYW tracks vs. No-Stevie-on-GOS tracks! Gut reaction: +Stevie wins, but I'm going to think about it.

My point being: both Stevie & Lindsey are in the midst of a late-career renaissance.

I find it very hard to pick someone's most recent album. That's why I couldn't choose TISL over Wild Heart.

Here, I can't choose GOS over OOTC.

I find it hard to compare, because newness tends to give things an edge that they wouldn't otherwise have.

The only thing I have to say is I don't think there's danger of me battling not to choose ITM over some of Christine's earlier work. So, when it comes to that poll, I'll have a foot up.

Michele

I'm somewhat confused by this poll because it asks about songs and lists albums, so I'm assuming you want the album with the best songs...K, that's tough. Call me biased if you'd please but I personally feel Lindsey has gotten better with each new release. I'd place Law & Order at the bottom, but Trouble, Mary Lee Jones, Bwana, It Was I...LOVE THEM. So it's not really a lousy album, just not my personal preference. The rest...geez, how can I possibly? It's too hard.

I went with Out of the Cradle because I think it's just a perfect album. and by perfect I mean I love the cd songs, the live songs, I could (and have) listen to it for a tremendous length of time (days, weeks, months) and never tire of it, I hear new things each time I play it...it's really a deep record but there's a sound of optimism in the music that really touches me. It's the record I would most willingly hand out to someone I want to convert (along with GOS) to show just what a brilliant artist Lindsey is. I'm just in love with the album all the way. It totally cemented in my mind and heart everything I love about Lindsey's music.

Gift of Screws is such an incredible album, though. I can totally see people choosing this one because his songwriting is so much more complex, he's doing a variety of different styles, and it's so rock and roll (for an LB album). The songs are individual gems imo.

I think the best thing for anyone trying to get into LB is to get it all, but if you can't buy these three first: Go Insane, Out of the Cradle, and Gift of Screws.

And I'm SO up for Lindsey doing a Bruce and playing one whole album all the way through live...guess which one I'd choose?

I think Lindsey would choose GOS too.

While I won't rank GOS and OOTC, I will say that third after these 2 would be Go Insane, for me.

As for his FM songs, it almost seems his songs are the least important part of his contributions to those albums.

I voted Gift of Screws.

I think it's a really exciting time for Linds creatively. Although BTLH, RR, and SYHA are standouts from the GOS days, so are RPTF, WFY, and GOS. PLUS: I think that BAR and DYMM and LRD are new classics, which I can't quite say for PK, WTWCT, SG -- all of which I love -- nor the rhythmically brilliant M, and the blistering ISA retreads MTOIHG(?) and C. So you've got 6 bona fide classics on GOS, with GD and TPT really representing something interesting in guitar production/performance on record AND those really really really pretty closing tracks (U steals that guitar twinkle from LMZ & T is a perfect ending -- so full of LOVE -- wow! what an album... the only thing it's missing is Stevie ).

Pardon the abbreviated songtitles above

1) What's the World Coming To
2) The Right Place To Fade
3) Steal Your Heart Away
4) Love Runs Deeper
5) Down On Rodeo
6) Show You How
7) Countdown
8) Underground
9) Turn It On
10) Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
11) Soul Drifter
12) Bleed To Love Her
13) Love Runs Deeper
14) Don't Look Down
15) Did You Miss Me

I need to stop writing this list before I sit there and think about every position for too long a time. The first 15 did come almost effortlessly, though.

Looking at the albums from which they come, I must vote for GOS. I only wish I had bought the CD with the LP master while it was available because the regular CD master is way too loud and sadly suffers from digital sizzling noise artifacts in places when played on my home stereo.
Is that version still affordable?

I think I have three of those? They came with the vinyl right? Will they sound different if I put them on my itunes?

I'm so not an audiophile, so I don't know if I could tell the difference. I don't remember if I ever played any of them on my stereo.

I can't do this by album.

I think Lindsey's best song since the Tusk album is

RED ROVER

(we've come to take you over...)

I still can't decide on the best songs. Some are better along with the album as a whole, but others stand out on their own.....I'm leaning toward Go Insane.....

I've got the "audiophile" one at home and it is not very different at all. I was expecting much less compression but as far as I remember it's pretty much as loud the standard release. I'll pick it up next time I'm at home to check but I don't think there was a much difference at all in terms of loudness.

I almost said Tango In The Night, but then I remembered You and I Part II and Family Man and decided not to. Acutally I voted for Say You Will, Lindsey is just a bit too weird in most of his music for me, and although SYW had a couple of slightly strange songs (ie Red Rover) the majority of his work on there was decent.
